Very deceptive cloud over Gibraltar
December 3, 2016 3:27am CST
My trip to Gibraltar yesterday turned out quite well, despite my previous fears that it would rain most of the day. The temperature was fairly cold, but since it was dry I was perfectly happy strolling along Main Street and around the square. As the coach turned off the main coast road and headed towards the access road to Gibraltar, we had a view of the Rock encompassed by some horrific black cloud lurking above reminiscent of a scene from some Bela Lugosi horror movie of the 1930s. My initial thought was “Oh no, go away naughty cloud”, yet there was no evidence of the cloud while we were on the Rock itself. The photograph above was taken directly after we had passed through customs when leaving. The cloud did not seem as dark by then, but it was still clearly present.

Yes, that is the rock itself and Gibraltar is well worth a visit. I would not visit for a week because it is quite small, but it is excellent for a day trip from Spain. It qualifies as a British Dependency, which really amounts to an independent country with strong ties to Britain.

@Asylum The reason I was curious was because you said you had to go through Customs. I had always thought it was part of Britain, so I thought maybe control of the rock was transferred to some other country since you mentioned Customs. But, if it is under self-rule, then I can understand the need for you to go through Customs! Were you on holiday in Spain, or did you take a trip just to see the rock?

I was visiting some friends in Gibraltar a few years ago. My flight was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. There was a humdinger of a storm and heavy rain. I couldn't get a flight back for two days but I was happy to stay and the weather improved.

That's probably not customs in the picture, but the way in to see the rock perhaps? Clouds can certainly be deceiving. We'll have storm looking clouds here that never produce anything and other times barely a cloud in the sky and it rains much of the day.
