I won a $50 Amazon Gift Card today!

Funny thing is, I also won a $50 Costco Gift Card and a Walmart $50 Gift Card. Must be my lucky day. When I first saw the Amazon one, I actually thought it was real, and started filling in some info before my brain woke up and I bailed out before submitting anything. Have you gotten any jive monkey promotions like this in the last couple of days? As I was bailing out, I noticed the small print saying I "may" have won a $50 gift card. Why are these kinds of things not illegal? Maybe @DaddyEvil or others among the computer-savvy can fill us in on what they're after. Time to delete my cookies again!

Congrats! It's always a great feeling when you realize the mistake before you submit the form, isn't it? I always get a kick out of seeing who does and doesn't read the entire post before commenting, too...

I've been observing that too. People who KNOW me know my sense of irony and actually bother to read the post. I'm thinking of doing a post about people who don't read posts. (I think @JolietJake has already done that, though.) Maybe I'll end it with, "Yo' momma's a man, she lives in a can" and see if anybody notices.

An enticing title gets lots of comments...too bad they don't relate to the discussion.

@infatuatedbby That's true! Now I'm awake and having a hard time getting motivated. Got some new speakers in. Maybe I'll sand away and that will motive me to do other stuff as well (mostly grading papers).

Amazon, won't reward you for shopping, so I would be wise to it, I get a lot of junk email like that. I only get amazon because I earned it from various sites.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I do enjoy using the service for CDs and such.

The closest I've come to getting rewarded for shopping at Amazon is having them extend my Prime membership when a product didn't arrive on time, or getting a credit applied to my account for trouble we had with a video we were trying to stream from their service.

A similar topic: I'd like to earn some extra cents with the myLot offers. Yet, they always want my details. I refuse to tell them. So no extra cents in my coffers. :-(

I avoid those like the plague. In the TOU it also says you will be contacted by other 3rd party sources, especially the educational institutions.

That maty have really irks me as it does not seem quite fair and a lot of them you have to jump through hoops before you can claim a gift card and spend money on some thjing you do not even want lol l o lol,.

@TheHorse All of the above, probably. Most of their privacy policies say they sell the information they collect, and then they require you to complete offers to claim your prize. Of course the offers they want you to do will cost you money...

Yeah, I can't tell if they're after information, or if they want to rope you in to something (spending money). I read further small print saying the promotions are not affiliated with Amazon, etc. So whoever is putting this garbage out DOES have lawyers working with them.

@Hatley - a lot of those "gift card" deals turn out to be total scams ... and they can use the information you give them for their own purposes. Scary!

They want our info. It's like the things people like and share on Facebook so they will win a house, a car, a gift card....free almost anything I can name. Supposedly intelligent people get tripped up by these promotions....again and again.

One very bright friend of mine (a nurse) got taken by the "I'll send you $2000 for your guitar and you send $500 back to me when I receive it" scam. He lost his guitar and $500.

@TheHorse - Well, I've made about 5 dollars total on MyLot and probably around $600 on SB without going at it too intensely, so it's work that's not hard. I know they don't want referral links in the articles, but I'm not sure about the comments. I will delete my comment if it's not allowed, but if you would like to sign up, it would be fantastic to have you as my referral. Here's the link:
