Wildlife on my mind and a plastic stork.

So I'm here on a house sitting gig up a mountain in Bulgaria. I have a great love like many of the outdoors. I arrived here in Bulgaria a place I love a few weeks ago. The wildlife here is amazing, anyway, the house owner Max, lovely guy, knows I like my birds. He and some others inform me that there are not many birds in the area. Wow, thinks I. Wonder why. Well I'm at thirty three species so far in and around the house!!!!!!! Thirty four if I can count the plastic stork, not bad considering it's winter and I'm only walking about the house and village and not even trying. Real storks arrive in the spring and nest sites are erected for them specifically and in turn the Spanish sparrows nest inside the storks nest would you believe. I used to live here for a number of years and the place I lived was on a migration route called the Via Pontica, superb for someone like me. Bulgaria is an amazing place. Anyhoo, Max and his friends now know that the little brown birds are not all the same lol We had a wee mishap after I put up some feeders, a nuthatch flew into a board propped against a wall, don't know what he was thinking. All is well and he recovered fine, I'm saying he might have been a she. I'll follow this post with another and include a picture or two if anyone is interested in such things.

I'm always surprised at how few flower names people know or if someone doesn't know the different kinds of grain.

We didn't think there were too many different varieties of birds around here either until we started counting and observing a bit more closely.
