The night "Santa" brought a baby to our house

You're probably thinking someone here gave birth to a baby on Christmas. Well, you're almost right. Our granddaughter was born two days before Christmas and we had our celebration in her hospital room with gifts and plates of holiday dinner. But the time I'm remembering is the year our daughter and son-in-law.. (I mean Santa) put together bunk beds in our living room. We had no idea how handy that would come in! Our daughter went to see a friend on Christmas Eve after we'd had our big dinner and the kids were ready for bed. She was surprised to see a small baby there with the grandfather who lived next door. Turns out the parents of the baby had gone on a trip and their car broke down on the way home. The grandfather was babysitting (although he wasn't in good health and not the best choice for a babysitter.) The parents weren't going to be home until the next day or ? ? My daughter asked the grandfather if she could bring the little one home with her to our house. The friend assured him she would be in good hands, so at midnight, here comes my daughter carrying a baby! The two of them slept on one of the bunk beds and the next morning, she took the baby back to the parents who by then had arrived home. Our grandkids thought at first that baby Jesus had come to spend the night! We'll never forget the night Santa brought a baby to our house.

I babysat some if my nieces when their new siblings arrived. Also looked after the neighbours baby . My husband was often surprised to find a playpen in the living room with a child that wasn't ours.

@1creekgirl I have always been drawn to babies. At every family event the babies somehow end up in my arms....sleeping.

How lovely is that? I'm sure the grandfather was very pleased to have some help with his baby-sitting.

Since the grandfather was not really able to take care of a baby, my daughter was afraid the parents might be gone longer than they thought. She's a good mama and there was no way she was leaving that baby there!

We do talk about it some years. The only bad part of that Christmas was having to take apart the bunk beds and haul them back to their home!
