The Plough is in Place

I'm a bit disappointed in the plough which we have cleaned up, painted and now placed on our wall. It's where I asked for it to go but now I think it is too high and it doesn't really have the impact I was hoping for. We might find an old wheel to place below it to try to balance the whole thing. I'm not brave enough to ask for it to be moved. I wrote about starting to restore it and promised I'd post when the project was completed so I'm keeping my promise. But as I said, it hasn't really turned out like I expected.

I agree, it's too high. A good balance would have been the upper part of the hand of the plough no hither than the top of the window. See more or less what I mean.

@JudyEv I like to test my "ideas" on a photo on the computer before asking my husband to do something. I think that Vince would have no objection to move the pough.

@JudyEv that's what I would do. I've had my husband hang something up for me and then a few days later tell him...that didn't work the way I planned it....can we please move it. He's probably a lot more gracious about those occurrences than I would have been.

That would have looked much better. How clever are you? :) Maybe I'll eat humble pie and ask Vince to move it.

I wish I'd known Anna's trick of doing a 'virtual' one. Oh well, another challenge. :)

That bravery thing I have still not understood. Who do you have to deal with? Are you not properly equipped?

@JudyEv Actually I already knew May be if you just changed the angle to make that pole vertical pointing downwards leaving the wheel there perhaps it would go well with that space. - just a thought.

@allknowing Thanks for the idea. The way it is is about the angle it would be used at. We're just letting it all digest in our subconscious and waiting to see what pops up - if anything.

The 'bravery' thing is being brave enough to ask Vince to move it after he has gone to so much trouble to put it where it is. If we shift it it will leave holes in the brick wall.

I think you are probably right - a bit lower would have been visually more pleasing.

Did you see Anna's photo? It looks just right where she has it. If I'd known how to do it (do a virtual one) it would have been easier to get it right.

In my opinion it would look better on a solid color wall and placed lower. Then again, what do I know? You're asking someone who depends on a decorator

A larger wheel might balance it out. Interesting place for it.

That patch of wall looked very bare. We were going to buy some sort of decoration then we thought of using the plough. But it hasn't quite worked out the way we wanted it too.

I first thought move it, but that would leave holes in the wall. Adding something else would balance the area and help encourage people to discuss the plough. You might ask your husband, if he thinks it should be moved or adding something additional. If I ask my husband's opinions, then he thinks its his idea to make a change. Last year my husband and a neighbor husband were discussing balancing of lights and now our neighbor has more lights this year and it looks like we have become Christmas Lane.

I know what you mean about husbands thinking it's their idea. For the moment we'll just think about what we can do.

I know the feeling, some projects look so much better in my head then it does when I actually get it done. But there's always the opportunity to rethink and redo.

We're looking for a wheel now or something else 'old' to go down the bottom.

The plough itself looks good nd yes, your idea of a wheel or something below would balance it.

If we shift it, we'll have holes in the wall not to mention it's a bit difficult drilling the holes in the first place.

They are used for decoration a lot around here but they are usually on the ground, not on a wall.

Because it's such a small one and that patch between the windows looks very bare we thought we'd put it there.

Is the plough antique? How old?

I would think it would be early 1900s. We had to make a new handle for it. The rest we just cleaned up and painted.

We can always just move it but that will leave plug holes in the wall. We're sleeping on it at the moment. :)

It would "pop" more on a solid wall without the brick pattern, or on a wooden back drop. It looks like a handy gadget,I have never seen a small cultivator like that. You have done a nice job.

looks good to me - adding something to it might work better than moving it

If we move it it will leave holes in the wall so I thought having something under to balance it might be a better option.

It's a neat idea, but I agree, the impact is minimal. Maybe an antique wheel would balance it. My design wall when quilting helps me to see the big picture. This is supposed to prevent me from finding out too late that my concept doesn't really work. Several projects have had major adjustments as soon as the first pieces are up on the wall.
