Really? The Klu Klux Klan?

I find it deplorable that any members of this hideous organization still exist. But they've come out from beneath their rocks and have been driving through some North Carolina towns saluting like Nazis and shouting their white power rants. Thankfully they were fewer in numbers than originally planned and were forced to scatter because of protesters only driving through in about 30 or so pick-up trucks. Still, the fact that on the cusp of 2017 people are so divided by bigotry has got me blue. President-elect Trump has made an effort to distance himself from them but it is falling on deaf ears. He is their hero and this makes me sad. I can only hope their invigoration will evaporate and we all can get back to the business at hand. Beam me up, Scotty.
Supporters of the Ku Klux Klan drove through a North Carolina market town on Saturday in what they said was a show of support for Donald Trump and his presidency.

It is sickening and Trump's efforts have been pretty feeble. He needs to forcefully address these yahoos and disown them.

@suziecat7 They were strong in Oregon back in the 1920s or so, but would not be tolerated by people driving around here today.

@JamesHxstatic - There were more protesters than Klan about, thank goodness. They forced them to scatter and the police rushed them through.

This is scary, seems like we are back to pre WWII Germany, it happens when leaders send out the wrong signals even while campaigning, it's certain white supremacist gangs are also there.

I'm hoping they'll all go away again soon. We have no place for their hatred here.

@suziecat7 bigotry and hatred is hard to make go away, they just lay dormant in people's hearts until a time comes that their is a signal that it is okay to come out, in this case i think it was Donald's campaign rhetorics

I am worried by the wave of xenophobia/racism that seems to propagate into our planet today after the election of populist candidates like Trump. It is not healthy. These people will back up on their feet soon : these populist candidates have always deceived their electorate, at least in Europe.

It is worrying. I was happy to see that Austria would have none of it in their elections. There is always hope.

I can understand why they believe that this is their President. He was very rude with some comments during the campaign. He had to weight more his words, now it's too late.

@suziecat7 So true, now he tries to take the distance with those people, but what he said shows that they think the same way.

I remember decades ago when the KKK tried to come in and hold a rally in the city I live in to set up a chapter there, and were practically run out of town by all the citizens. The KKK idiots were outnumbered something like 100 to 1, and it made my heart feel so good to see so many people stand up to their hatred and send the message that they weren't welcome. Whites, blacks, asians, hispanics all stood side by side and told the KKK to get the hell out of our city!

@suziecat7 I agree. They count on the fact that the majority of the population is lazy, complacent, or apathetic. If we all just get involved and spend a little time fighting for what's right, hate groups like this would move on to somewhere else, because they don't want to operate in places where the citizens are actively involved in positive changes.

They never really went anywhere, if you look and you really don't have to look that hard, you will see news stories from them over the past ten or fifteen years. I know they have been quieter than before but they are still very much around.

I'm complete agreement with you. It is hard to believe that these organizations still exist today. I don't understand how people can support these things. The Ku Klux Klan should not exist anymore.

@changjiangzhibin89 You are welcome. I believe that my maternal grandfather was perhaps a member in Georgia and maybe Texas, according to my now deceased mother. It is not anything to be proud of.

It is an organization that started after the US Civil war in 1865. They were and are racists and white supremacists who, with the encouragement of Trump's election feel that they can, as @suziecat7 says here, crawl out from " beneath their rocks."

There used to be a camp of them in north Idaho but they lost the property they owned and there encampment was torn down. They left the area but now some are trying to come back. I got into a "discussion" with someone from South Africa after they made a comment about America being full of racist because Trump was elected. I did not agree with this person. I believe Trump won because people wanted change in the White House–not because everybody is a racist. I'm not denying that there are no racist in America, I'm just saying not everyone in America is a racist which was what this person sounded like they were saying.

No, not everyone in America is a racist. But Trump's election has brought all the hate groups out of their hiding places. The Klan endorsed him as have other such organizations. Change is good but seeing the likes of these groups celebrating in the streets hurts my heart.

@suziecat7 Yes, the Trump election did that. But to view America as a nation of racist did not set well with me. And as I pointed out to this person there is more than likely racist in every nation but that doesn't mean every nation should be viewed as a nation of racist. Trump is already working to keep jobs in America and that is why I believe most people voted for him. Not because the nation is full of racist. I have a friend who listen to all this alternative stuff (Coast to Coast) and he claims Russia was gearing up for war and had Clinton been elected our cities would have been bombed by now. I don't really see it. If Russia was going to bomb us why didn't they do it while Obama was President? And why bomb us before they see what Clinton would do?
