Snickerdoodle

Snickerdoodles were my mom's favorite cookie. I looked up the recipe and realized it's cheaper to buy them already made! Of course, they don't taste nearly as good when they aren't home made. I guess a lot of baking is done this time of year. My dad's kitchen gets filled with baked goods this time of year since holiday goodies are such popular gifts (he's a pastor). My late mom was always the one who loved sweets, so my dad usually sends some home with me. Does anybody like Divinity? My mom loved that stuff, and her grandmother always made it for her at Christmas. I didn't care for it. My grandmother used to make Tea rings, and those were good. Do Christmas treats abound where you are?

My grandmother use to make Divinity fudge and I loved it but I have not had it since I was a kid. I don't make any treats over the holidays but I do get to try different ones when I go visit other people.

@Hate2Iron Here is a link that will show you what it is. This one is by Paula Dean and pretty much the way my grandmother use to make it.

We don't have much around here right now. Roomie and I are both trying to lose weight, so that is a good thing!

What's Divinity? I love some of the baked goods this time of year. I think almond cookies are my favorite. I like snickerdoodles.. I've made them once or twice.. I added toffee bits to mine, delish!!

Divinity is a really airy kind of tasting cookie. It's got pecans in it, and at least the ones my great grandmother made, were covered in powdered sugar.

I make a few things here, mostly no-bake things, fudge, haystack cookies with the Chinese noodles but I do bake a nice thumb print cookie with a bit of jam in your thumb print.

@AmbiePam Oh they are delicious, and so easy to make! I think its peanutbutter and butterscotch chips melted over those noodles with some peanuts mixed in.

I had a snickerdoodle latte today at a small, local coffee shop near my work! It was delicious!

@AmbiePam I know! You would absolutely love it! It was incredibly delicious. So much so that I may go back and get another one today! I love this little coffee shop that is near my work. They come up with the best flavor combinations for their lattes, espressos and coffees!

Is Divinity the ones that melt in your mouth? If so, then I think I like them, if not then I don't really know what they are. (Caught a few comments and see that it's a fudge. I don't think I've had that one). We try to stay away from too many treats in our house. My sister-in-law has plenty at her home when we arrive on either Christmas or other holidays. I'm wanting to break the sugar habit, and I met someone yesterday that has been off sugar since September and has no more pain in her joints or other areas on her body. She was told she had an auto-immune disease when she was having unaccounted for pain, but now she's pain-free. I know I did better the two times I stayed off sugar in the past and would like to get there again. Not sure when I'll start though.

It's great that she's pain free. I know sugar causes inflammation, so it makes sense she'd be better. I admire people who have the will power to do it. For any amount of time!

@AmbiePam If you ever want to try going sugar-free yourself it might help if you knew that once you get past a couple of weeks you're almost free of the addiction. How long it could take might be a little different for everyone, but the two times I did Atkins, that's how long it took me. I was able to sell the stuff at my checkout without it bothering me too.

@MarshaMusselman I went gluten free for about 3 months. For three days I went through withdrawal. I felt terrible. I'm sure sugar is even harder. You're tough!

Right now, all we have is homemade cinnamon-raisin bread. It has the white icing and it's so good! I usually bake a lot during Christmas but I'm not sure if I am going to this year.

I usually make some, pine bark candy is one we love here and peanut brittle but I am not very good at it. I do not give up, I keep making it and hope it gets better each year.

It's almost like a circular ring (with a hole in the middle) that inside is a cinnamon roll. It's covered in icing, and decorated alternately by a cherry or pecan. The cherry and pecan take turns, one every inch or two. You end up with about 4 cherries and 4 whole pecans decorating the top. It's normally as big as a large plate.

I used to make Snickerdoodles every year back when I made a lot of Christmas cookies. They were always a big hit with friends and family.

Isn't that the sad case? When it costs more to make things at home? Usually the opposite is true. Happily not much baked goods around here though my mom will almost certainly makes some delicious items

It was more expensive to make, and that's with me already having two of the ingredients.

Divinity Fudge never made it. No fudge lovers in my family. We do a lot of baking, as my daughter and I bake for the library parties. Also bake for many of our friends and family. Happy holidays
