Fighting a "not so good" fight

Well, what began as a scratchy throat has now blossomed into something a little more serious. My throat hurts so badly that I couldn't sleep at all. I tried drinking something cold, but that made it hurt worse, so I tried tea with honey. That hurt, too, but I sipped it anyway. And it hurts even more when I'm not drinking anything. Advil has eased it a little bit and maybe I'll be able to sleep a little bit. I found some cough drops, since the few times I've coughed already hurt more than I care to think about. Unfortunately, I don't have any money to pay the pharmacy for something a little stronger until next week when my check comes in. So I can only hope that this begins to ease rather than gets worse. I've gone the last few years without getting sick, probably because I lived alone at home and didn't go out much. Living in a large apartment building like this reminds me that it's going to be a little easier to get sick here. Thankfully, I don't have to go to work! Hope everyone else is feeling just fine! -Claudia- image from pixabay

I just hate it when you know a cold or the flu is coming and you really can't do much to stop it once the first symptoms start. Fingers crossed you get better soon!

I wish I was closer, what you need are some Stepsils , they would ease your throat like nobody's business. I order them from England and I always have some just in case.

I am so sorry that you aren't feeling well. With your throat like that, it almost sounds like strep throat. I have had it twice and it can get pretty nasty. Is there any way you can go to the doctor?

Hope you feel better soon! We went through the sickies a few weeks ago . . . argh - do not want to go through that again (but it's inevitable - I know it'll happen again at some point). My kids' pediatrician said take honey straight to make it most effective (I guess to actually coat the throat?). A little apple cider vinegar with water is supposed to help clear a sore throat too - add honey if needed . . . that's just our daily morning regiment. Get better soon!

I'm sorry. =( We have been sick here for 2 weeks now and it's been awful. We are just starting to get a little better but we needed antibiotics to clear it up. I hope you feel better really soon!

A good homemade tip: boil about 2 cups of water with a chopped up onion and lots of black pepper and also something to sweeten the content: I used brown sugar. Boil for about 7 min. and drink, it helps when I cought a lot, it might help for the sore throat too.

I am sorry, surely meeting people put us at risk. I know that it hurts, but apple cider vinegar helps to heal the throat.

I hope you get better soon, and it's terrible that you can't get the medication you need.

One thing I like to take for sore throats and coughs is Ricola cough drops. They come in many flavors but they are a bit more costly than halls or similar ones. They work so much better, though. Had I taken them when my sore throat began, maybe I wouldn't have gotten laryngitis. I do have some congestion, but I never had a runny nose or cough. The congestion could be sinus as I've had pressure there on certain days. Hope you can get some relief. If you can afford Ricola which in our area run about $`1.59 per bag, you may want to give it a try. At least you can rest for the day.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well and your throat is very sore. For colds I always made my kids a hot lemon and honey. The honey soothed the throat as well as made it taste good. Like hot lemonade. It might not feel good, but the honey does have some healing agents in it so it might help in the long run. It will also keep the coughing at bay.

I´m sorry You are so ill. Shouldn´t you go to the doctor so that he can give you an antibiotic? Here antibiotics can only bought by prescription.

I am sorry for your sore throat. A pharmacist told me that a cured cold was lasting 1 week, while a non cured one was lasting 7 days, so you can try as well household remedies : honey is a good remedy, as is lemon. If you have thyme, you can try a tea with thyme, lemon and honey. If you cannot sleep a grog with honey might help. Take care of yourself.

I am so sorry for you. A really sore throat is not nice at all. I don't have any remedies but hopefully someone else may have some good ideas.

Oh no hope you are better soon! Have you been to the doctor or anything? Currently suffering silently with something similar as well as having a toddler moaning at my heels with it! All i can suggest is to keep up on your fluids and make sure they are warm, not too hot or cold as your throat will just feel worse and lots of pain relief in rest!Honey helps as well if it feels tickly! Good Luck!!
