It's Party Time!

United States
December 7, 2016 3:27pm CST
This Friday is the company Christmas Party. I neglected to send in my reply to go because I really didn't want to go. I tend to get a little anxious when in large groups of people. The fear of walking into a room full of people makes my heart race. After having so many people give me a guilt complex for not going, I decided that I just may go. So I called the office to see if it was too late to add me to the list and yes, it was too late. Yay! I was doing the happy dance because I thought I was off the hook. Then I got a call to say that I could go. Ugh. So, I guess I will put on my best and go share an evening with my coworkers. I needn't stay long. Can't anyway because I have to work this weekend. Hopefully I won't chicken out and stay home.

Lol - those work parties can be a disaster - or great fun - I hope yours is the latter. The worst part is actually going in - see if you can find someone you know to go in with, so that you can give each other morale support.

I intend to find someone that is going at the same time so we can walk in together. My fear is that if I have to go in alone, I will not even leave the house!

@ElusiveButterfly Go in backwards! Sorry, couldn't help myself - I know it's nothing to be making jokes about.

@JudyEv Now that would be a sight to see. However, I would probably fall on my keister.

I have social anxiety so I don't go in for crowds at all. Even people I don't know. You should try to go. At least for a little while.

My husband won't be going with me. He is my anchor. I hope I can make it through the front door.

@celticeagle I have to get through the door first. Guess I'll have to speak to a coworker and ask her what time she is going to be there so we can walk in together.

You should do what makes you comfortable. And if you do go, I hope you have a good time.

I did go, and had a good time too! Wish I could have stayed longer though. Lack of sleep for the past few days drove me to leave early so I could get home and rest. I have to work today and coldn't have done it without some rest.

@tammys85 If I hadn't been so tired I would have stayed a little longer.

@ElusiveButterfly Awe, I'm glad you had a great time after all! And I don't blame you for wanting to get some rest, at least you were able to go for a little while.

I hope you decide to go, what I do is zero in on one person I know well and head right toward them, less intimidating that way.

I went in all by myself. When I first arrived, the coworker that told me that she was going because she hoped that I was too was there and I sat with her and a few more of my coworkers. It was a lot of fun. Wish I could have stayed longer, but my entire body was tense and hurting from lack of sleep.

You are too funny. I always went with a coworker. I, too, dislike going alone.

I would have preferred going with my husband. But, had to go alone. It felt awkward being there without him.

@DianneN I did for a while. Once they left the table and headed for the dance floor I felt like a third wheel.

@ElusiveButterfly I can imagine that. I feel strange without my hubby, too. Did you manage to have some fun with other people?

I never liked those kind of big parties, sometimes they are funny, but most of the time you feel not fully comfortable to be there.

Well, at least I can say that I attended one. Who knows, I may just enjoy myself so much that I may stay a little later. But, considering that I have to work this weekend, I won't be out too late.

There will be a few faces that are familiar to me, but more faces that are not.

I just let my husband know that I was going. I think he was a bit surprised. I told him that I had just decided to go because everyone was bugging me to go! He is going away for the weekend so he won't be around to keep me company, so why not go?

I hope that it goes well for you, being in large groups of people is not my favorite thing either. I would much rather be home alone or with my family.

As long as I didn't have to wander through the middle of the crowd I was okay. I stayed at my table until we had to go to the buffet for our meal.

It might be fun and you don't have to stay long. I tend to get a little anxious when I don't know people but not so much if it's people I know

I just get nervous about being around that many people. Even if I know everyone, it is weird.
