Less Than Satisfied

You know how all those surveys ask if you would recommend this or that product or site? I've never gone out of my way to discuss sites and products, but today I'm letting you know I am less than satisfied with AT&T. I know I was enthused about them when I changed over my Internet back before I moved. However, today, I am less than happy with them. When I changed services they promised me a reward card. When I changed the service they promised me another reward card, doubling my reward with them. I never heard from them. A month or so ago I called them and they told me they were sending me an e-mail so I could verify the reward and they would send the reward cards in the mail. I was skeptical at best with the person on the phone, for good reason. I started a chat with them this morning, that got escalated to a supervisor who called me and then without warning transferred me to another representative. By this time I'm getting slightly irritated. Then I was informed that the reward cards expired the end of September. Say what?! Without sending me an e-mail to verify them or sending me them in the mail? Before I was finished with this phone call I was transferred five times and the last time being very agitated, the representative sent me to the queue where I was on hold for a very long time and then the representative had the gall to offer me a promotion for $5 more. I told her I didn't want the promotion, I wanted the credit on my account since they couldn't send me the reward cards they promised me. I didn't get any definite answer on that, just more runaround and a threat to transfer me yet again. I told her that when my contract was up, I would be canceling my service with them. If that means I have to go back to Time Warner, so be it. I'm not happy with them either, but I only have two choices here. If I were out in the country more instead of the city, I would have more options. Hopefully by the time this contract is up there will be other better options available to me. I had AT&T many years ago and quit their service. I think I now know why. How has your day been? Thanks for reading.

@just4him You got more out of it than I did, although I couldn't help but laugh. I've noticed myself having that problem before after writing several sentences. It's easily done.

I can understand how you feel about that . I experienced having that once . So after that , there was a survey about the customer representative that had my call . I rated her 5 out of 10 . And when asked if i will recommend their network , i told them not at all .

Good grief! What a bunch of hooey. I'd go elsewhere too. I am so glad that I have good service. I have had Cable One since before they were Cable One. So sorry you have this run around. I think I have two options here for cable, several for internet and phone.

THat's super unfortunate, Valerie. What month was it that you moved to the new apartment? (I see a related post on the side bar. You began your move in July. Even then, it's their error, they should rectify it) It doesn't seem like it was all that long ago. I've never heard of a place not keeping that part of the deal when it was promised. I've also never heard of having to verify one's email or whatever in order to get the reward. They surely have your correct street address, that's all they'd have needed. Have you thought about complaining to the better business bureau so at least others would know they lack in this area? I'm a bit surprised that you'd have more options if you lived in the country. Here it's the opposite, only one company available in most counties, whereas several options in the city.

Someone else suggested it as well and I'm highly considering it. I've never complained about anything to the BBB, so we'll see what happens. It's just the way it is here, only two options in the city but a lot more further out.

Unfortunately, the BBB does not have any power over a business other than the threat of revealing their perfidious nature to anyone who ventures onto their site. Very few businesses care if a few people know they cheat their customers.... Those few people are a drop in the bucket considering how many people AT&T has already scammed and gotten away with it! That's why I recommend the FTC. The FTC can levy fines and place embargoes on businesses to force them to comply. The FTC can also sue on a customer's behalf to correct the issues the company is ignoring.

I have AT&T and have never really had any issues with them. They have the best cell phone service and hot spot internet out of anyone that I have ever had. Sorry they aren't living up to what you had hoped for.

@thislittlepennyearns You do realize that what you said only holds true where you live, right? Here in Missouri, AT&T services are alright, but Verizon actually beats the pants off AT&T with regard to not dropping calls, no lost signal and continuous data streaming.... AT&T can only lust after the customer support base Verizon controls here. Hmmm... I would have sworn I have spoken to you before, AK? But my pc tells me I've never talked with you... very strange! Anyway, I always greet someone new to me, so here goes: Hello! You are someone new to me, so I wanted to extend a hand in friendship to you and tell you that I hope you are enjoying your time on myLot. @DaddyEvil its the opposite here. I had Verizon for awhile and it sucked. Maybe it does have a lot to do with where someone lives.

My day was spent outside in our garage working and putting stuff from outside in shed for the winter. Sorry to hear about your problems with AT&T hope you at least get a credit from them for all of the problems you went through with them.

appalling that they are presenting offers they are unable / unwilling to honour and passing you around with transfers was obviously just a way to intimidate you - i'd quit using them too though never used their services anyhow

Not that I'm aware of. They promised me a reward card for signing up with them, and also again when I changed my service to unlimited data.

This is the 2nd post here about AT&T I have read. We have it available in this area, but will stay with TWC. They are not the best (no clue who is) either.

Whenever I have a dispute with a company I threaten to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They practically fall all over each other to resolve my gripe in a way that I like. I had a beef with DirecTV last year and ended up getting a significant discount till the end of my contract--which is thankfully up in February. Try mentioning the BBB or just file a complaint with them online. You'll probably be shocked at how fast you get those gift cards!

Companies like those tend to 'pull up their socks' when there is more competition around. If there isn't - then the consumer suffers.
