Carnage on King Street

Go away for the day and look what happens. This morning I went to visit my father and helped him assemble a bookshelf......meanwhile...... The road I drove just yesterday became the scene of a demolition derby type event. A drunk driver struck not one, not two, but seven vehicles before he came to a stop. One of the cars, waiting at a red traffic light was struck so hard he flew across the road and into a department store.....the facade of the department store where the car was lodges had just been rebuilt....finished less than a week ago. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. Now to attempt a link.
A shocking incident in Port Colborne this morning after an alleged impaired driver slammed into several cars, even sending one into a storefront.

That was extremely lucky that no-one was killed. That's a new one on me - an 'impaired' driver.

@Morleyhunt Exactly, but I suppose if they print that he was drunk and it turns out that he wasn't, they could be sued.

@jaboUK political correctness. I remember many years ago, on a radio talk show....the caller took offence at the term visually impaired...his comment. I'm blind as a bat....can't we just say that. everyone knows what that means

Impaired = drunk. The use of euphemisms is confusing if you're not familiar with them. Why not just say he was drunk.

Oh my goodness, a few months ago a young driver in Rome (Italy) took the Ferrari of his father, he was not an expert driver and entered a cafè killing 7.

@Morleyhunt This is what happened to the young boy in the Ferrari, he hit the gas instead of the brakes. Yesterday someone did the same and he went down the Metro stairs in another Italian city.

@Morleyhunt I was wondering what you and Joanne meant by a 'drive-thru'. We don't get many of those situations around here.

In the last fifteen years so many buildings in our community have been turned into "drive thru" by senior who hit the gas when they meant to hit the brakes.....the bakery, the pizza shop, a bank, a house (that was a transport truck avoiding a mini van that ran a red light), the real estate office, the fabric shop, the grocery store.......

@shaggin very little has been said about the man in the pick up truck. More details of the accident are coming out. He was going very fast (30 mph/50 km speed zone). After striking the first two cars he sailed over the railroad tracks....losing a tire......I shake my head.

It certainly has become the talk of the town. No one feels very sympathetic to the fool in the truck. I watched some of the footage caught on security cameras....he was flying. He managed to lose a wheel and still travelled another almost 800 ft.

Well done on the link! Aren't you clever? But how awful for all those involved - and the poor shop-owner. More expense. It will really spoil their Christmases.

I felt really bad for the shop owner. Tuesday was the first day I saw the new facade without any boards or scaffolding. Now it is all boarded up again.

That is indeed fortunate. There are often many pedestrians in the area in front of that store.

And I missed all of the excitement. Actually I'm glad I wasn't there. Watching all that happen...knowing there is nothing you can do to stop it would cause nightmares.

Good job on the link. Did it take you more than one try to get it this time? When I forget to put an extra space between my post and the link, it doesn't show up right. It's good that no one was seriously hurt. I hope that no one was in the store at that point in time. It doesn't look like the driver of that blue car fared well, but maybe the front of the car wasn't as bad as the back. I bet the store owners were devastated and I hope that the drunk driver had insurance so the store can be recompensed, or maybe it's done differently there in Canada?

There was a customer in the store that was injured. The driver of the car that entered the store also had injuries. To have valid license plates, you must provide proof of insurance. If his insurance has lapsed, there will be further charges.

We were at the other end so we missed the excitement.....in fact, we heard about mid afternoon....by then most was cleaned up....the store front.....that will take a while.

He couldn't be content with hitting just one car.....but seven? That is a bit extreme. And then putting one of them through the newly refurbished store front (24 hours) was the icing on the cake.

It could have been much worse. If this had happened at the same time on a Friday morning the area would have been crowded with pedestrians as well.
