Would Appreciate Prayers or Good Thoughts for Me This Weekend

I was going to ask for prayers for my daughter and her boyfriend, but will share on that another time. I did work this past Tuesday successfully in that I didn't feel light-headed, but business came in spurts and I had little breaks throughout my day. I know that this weekend will be quite busy with people shopping for Christmas and their weekly food and my checkout lane may be going non-stop all three days. Although I don't know for sure why I fainted last week, I'm somewhat confident that the unna boot was the main culprit. They'd wrapped it pretty tight, and since my right leg isn't working well since it needs the new knee, my right leg has to do most of the work holding me up when standing and walking. I've been asking around and the majority of patients needing to use unna boots seem to be retired or even bed-bound. I'm going to eat my lunch before work to make sure that's not the problem. I also made sure they wrapped the new application of the unna boot looser than before. It's sort of like wearing a stronger RX of a support stocking except it hardens like a cast. If my fall was related to a drop in my blood pressure, I don't know what to do to ensure that doesn't happen. I don't anticipate any problems today, but would be blessed if you'd see me staying upright throughout my days working.

Thanks, Morley. I was going to have eggs for breakfast today but was reminded that our managers provided a lunch for everyone to celebrate the holiday coming up. So, instead i went in a bit early and ate a decent amount. I did have a good night and am sure everyone's thoughts and prayers helped. I didn't have any issues at all. My leg with the unna boot hurt, but that's not really uncommon. It hurt when I was treating it and before I began doing anything for it.

Oh my, I do hope you stay upright. Take care. I have known two people who fainted a few times and no one really ever found a reason. I have only fainted once, I think, and it was from pain. Another time when I worked the night shift, standing sorting mail, I fell asleep standing up and of course then went down.

When you fainted from the pain, did you know it was hurting you that much that it caused you to faint, or did you find that out later on? The odd thing is my joint that needs the replacement will hurt exceedingly for short spurts of time while I'm standing on it some days, but after about ten minutes it gets better as if my brain says enough already. The pain from the unna boot isn't anywhere close to how painful the bad joint can get and that's why I'm unsure whether that's the reason I went down or not. I may never know since I didn't go to the hospital right after it happened.

@MarshaMusselman even if you had gone, they might not have been sure why you fainted. The time I fainted from pain was when I had a very very bad bladder infection, I passed out and fell off the toilet. lol So, yes it was sudden. My friend and my late niece who had these fainting spells never got an answer as to why. Although with my late niece it seemed to happen a couple of times when she came in from the cold and then a few minutes later fainted. And, in her case it seemed she hadn't eaten properly those times as she was a poor eater when she was young. Any way nothing serious seemed to develop for either of them.

@MarshaMusselman I think that's ridiculous - most of our cashiers do the job sitting down - what difference does it make?

@jaboUK Maybe the set up is quite a bit different over here than over there. I've never seen any cashiers sitting down here in the states, other than for small stores of different types maybe. If the checkout lanes aren't wide enough to support a stool or some type of seating, that's probably the main difference.

No, they don't allow anyone to sit any longer while working there. We don't know whether it's a corporate decision or that of our Store Directors. Years ago when someone that was a cashier had a certain restriction she was moved to help out in fashions and given a chair and table to work on pricing the clothing. That hasn't been allowed in over ten years for anyone, not even my husband that has a prosthetic.

OH dear sorry to hear you have fainted recently. If you are standing in your job all day that won't be very good for your leg. Can you not sit down on the Till? Walking is good for the circulation albeit quite painful,. Perhaps you are deficient in salt. There is a growing trend not to use salt but the body needs salt. My wife has gone over the years from using too much salt to practically none at all.

I think I still eat too many things that already contain plenty of salt for that not the be the issue. No, we don't have room to sit at the registers. Although I walk stick-legged, it's a little easier than standing in one spot for two hours at a time. I do get a little walking in when I help load someone's basket or need to scan large items on the bottom of their baskets. I could work uscan which would mean I'm walking more, but when it's not busy we don't have a pad to stand on over there and then my feet bother me. If it's not one thing it's another.

Thanks. It was a good night. I'm not so concerned about the days ahead anymore, but I'll be sure to eat and take care of myself too.
