Who Is The Boss?

Our cat howled mournfully all morning. He walked around the house howling. He does this often but usually settles down after a while. Today it just went on and on. Hubby sent him out to the garage. There the cat has a door to go in and out as much as he wants. He just howled to come back in. Finally, I put a little different food in his dish and he settled down. ???? He has never shown a preference so I have no idea. But now he is sleeping on my shoe so I am walking around without my shoe because I am NOT going to disturb him.

We were petless for quite a while and I thought we were going to keep it that way. Now, this stray has moved in and gradually changed from a skittish, nervous cat to a demanding member of the household! And yet we enjoy him a lot of the time.

@Mike197602 You remind me of my divorced friend . . I asked him why he is alone this Christmas? He used to have a girlfriend. His response - - "O, I let her go . . She wanted to be the boss in my house. No way, man . . I am the king in my house!" I asked him if I am not allowed to use his throne. He replied that I may . . but warned me not to make a mess!

@paigea I do not go bare feet either. I had a dog Bhagira. He wanted our torn cotton door rug to hug. We would keep it way but he would find it and sleep on it.

He looks like he loves the shoe. Those are my house shoes, they are Birkenstocks and have a picture of a dog when you stand with your feet together. They are cute, but very very worn. I have problems with my feet and always have to wear shoes.

What a cute shot. Cats are so strange sometimes, mine doesn't howl but she does like to talk to either me or her pup. She's 10 now so I have to wonder if it's her age makin her do that.

@paigea I think cats are communists when it comes to the food of other cats. However, they seem to respect each other's rights to their own prey while it's being caught and eaten.

Other people's cats made it necessary to move our cat's food into the house. They were using his cat door into the garage and eating all of his food. So, I guess other people's cats are bossing us around too!

@bagarad That is an interesting observation. I haven't noticed. Our cat certainly didn't seem to guard his food bowl. He just cried at the door when his dish was empty. lol

aw, sweet pic! don't blame ya, hon, i'd not wished to disturb him neither. the cat here'll do that't times. poor dear so wished to go outdoors today, but too much traffic coupled with 2 'f the neighbors pups runnin' amok thwarted her efforts to gimme to cow down to her wishes. she's off sulkin'/nappin' somewhere outta sight.

@paigea i'm to blame fer the cat here's confinement :( when i took the neighbors pup'n (which now he belongs to me, long story), he came to live'n the backyard. he chases cats 'n she's petrified 'f him . there's no fence'n the front yard, so she's not much protection from other pups. i hear ya, 't times ya jest dunno what they desire 'n seems all ya do makes such worse :)

I know that yowling sound too well. Doodles howls at his "baby" which is a stuffed mouse. He then moves it from one place to another. I'm glad your sweet kitty settled down finally! Perhaps he needs a baby of his own.

@paigea Doodles only sleeps with his baby and brings him to me. Otherwise, he may play with a catnip toy or knee highs that I load with catnip and knot. Double layer. He will also go into a cardboard box or new bag. Sometimes he plays with a ribbon if I stand around and whip it. Boring for me, but fun for him. Cats are so finicky. I downloaded the mouse app on my iPad. He used to love it, but got bored. Now my granddaughter tries to beat his score. Lol!

Perhaps. So far he only wants to play with our hands (ouch), or the yarn when I am knitting. If I give him yarn to play with, that is no good. He will play with crumpled up paper briefly but that is all. The toys I have bought are useless. lol

He is always noisy but yesterday was significantly more so. Maybe because he needed outside to potty and it is bitterly cold here right now.

You so love him. When he is calling out hard he is just lonely. I also give my cat 'stew chicken' then pat his back or chest to rhythm with his heartbeat, and then he sleep deeply. I too, will not wake him up. Sometimes they are just like little children. I love kittens.

@paigea Sure you can. They sense empathy you know. Just feel their heart beat with your hand and tap together with it. I don't sing, but sort of purr so the vibration reaches him.If everything else fail, try a few drops of brandy in is milk! That works too!
