Ok question for you all. What do you prefer when it comes to Christmas trees artificial or real? The reason for me asking is my boyfriend and me was talking about it recently and he said he almost prefers real to artificial and the reason being is he feels you don't have to mess with the branches as much to get it to look the way you want it. What is everyones take on this?

I like real because of the smell. Cleaning up needles should be part of the post-Christmas ritual.

Seconded. Artificial trees are bah! You're only allowed to have one if you have pets or small children.

I like the smell, too, I remember it from childhood. My dad always had bayberry candles at Christmas but I can't find any these days. They were wonderful and piney but with an extra something that I loved.

I like real as well. No Christmas is definitely not artificial. I don't look at it that way with a artificial tree at all. I have to have a tree even if I don't have kids I like to enjoy it it just don't seem like Christmas without one.

I dont like wasting a real tree (unless I get one in a pot I can plant later), real is more of a fire hazard, harder to clean up, and messy. I will stick with a reusable fake one

I agree real ones are messy and you have to keep them watered or they will not make it til Christmaz. I like the smell of real one

@Tina30219 I do like the smell, but I can put up a few small branches and get that, without cutting down a tree

True. I think they have this spray you can use to spray on your tree that makes it smell like a real tree.

@TINA30219 I prefer artificial ones as I can't remember to water things and when one doesn't it dries out, and I had read then it is a major cause of fires over the holiday because of the lights one puts on the tree. I used to have real trees when I was very young, though. But I figure I have a tree much cheaper to just put it up then go out and buy a new one! Hope you get a great tree!

We have a artificial one but my man can't make up his mind on if he wants to set it up or get a real one. I told him just use what we have

@Tina30219 Yes, that is what I figured I would like since I can't possibly take care of a live tree myself!

I prefer real trees but we have an artificial one as hubby doesn't like the mess that real trees make when the pine needles fall off.

real trees die and need replacing and shed pines over the carpets - though nicer they are harder to maintain - I tend to prefer artificial

I agree real trees just die and need more work than an artificial. I will stick with artificial.

Right real ones can be a lot of work. I like having artificial less work.

I prefer fake trees personally. Less mess and maintenance which for us works better with 4 kids I have enough mess to clean each day! Lol.
