Its Pretty White Outside

I'm up very early today. And although it is still dark, I turned on the yard lights to get a peek of the latest snowfall. It looks so beautiful, undisturbed and white-white everywhere! It looks like we got a decent amount and its cold enough that its the light powdery snow. But they are calling for the temperatures to rise this morning and the snow to change to sleet and eventually rain-ugh that doesn't sound like it will stay so pretty out. For now I will enjoy the view of the beautiful white landscape that lies outside of our home.

Thank you, that's the view looking out our front door. But I have to confess, I didn't take this picture today, its from a few years ago when we had a blizzard and the wind was blowing in big drifts, as you see.

Thank you, the beauty will change in a few hours when it warms up and we get mist and then rain. The neighbourhood kids all used to love playing on that big drift that blows in there across the road from us.

@Juliaacv I noticed that big pile of snow. It looks like it is up against the building.

@JudyEv It is actually a drift that sat between 2 homes across the road from us. There is an open field behind those homes, so the wind just pushes all of the snow there and it piles and piles and piles up.

That is quite a mound of snow you have there. More coming our way with below-zero temps. The powdery snow is sure easier for us to remove.

That picture is from a few years ago. And we didn't get a lot of snow that time, but we had a lot of wind. The kids in the area love it when that drift appears between those 2 homes. I just came home in freezing mist (it was slippery) and most of the snow has melted that we got over night last night.

@Juliaacv So glad you made it home safely. Snow coming tonight, but the forecast keeps changing so will wait until morning to remove it.

The day that I took that picture it was cold outside, today will get above freezing, but right now its below the freezing mark. And then next week they are calling for a few days above freezing so we could still have a green Christmas-I hope not.

The kids in the area just LOVE that drift when it appears. They used to be out there for hours, you'd have to go and drag them home if there were wind chill factors.

Snow always looks so pretty. Outside my window is similar to your snowy view but we had ice on top of the snow this morning. Hoping the temperatures rise so that the ice melts

We had a misty rain earlier but now its -2 so its freezing mist and the roadways are getting slick. I'm glad that I'm home again-a lot of last night's snow has melted.

From what they are calling for, it should warm up above freezing mid to late next week, so we could sadly have a green Christmas. This afternoon we are expecting rain.

The Chicago area got the rain and sleet last night, now everything is a sheet of ice. Nasty out there, I'm staying home where it's safe. You stay safe as well.

Thank you. It was just trying to mist when I went into work around 9:30, I just got home and that mist is now freezing. The roads in town were slick but the country road is heavily salted so I did the speed limit without any concerns, but I wouldn't want to be going back out again. With me I worry about me slipping and falling, I don't want any broken bones.

Thank you, I didn't take this picture today, but did a few years ago. The wind always blows the snow in there between those 2 homes, and our son has so many memories of playing on drifts over there.

We had a few inches, it was enough that my husband ran the snow blower-we have a long driveway because we're out in the country. But most of it melted during the day today, and now the mist that is falling is freezing. My car is coated in ice.
