Suddendeath poetry Challenge: Ice Welcome to this weekend’s Suddendeath poetry challenge, Ice! Anyways, rules are as follows, write a poem in any style using the five words that I give you. Write it in one sitting or in under an hour (only to quash your inner editor, rules are loose there). Add it here, OR link in a comment so we can enjoy each other’s' poems. The words can be in any plurality or tense. Today’s words are: slick, cold, coating, glass, frozen My entry is always, below: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Slick as glass the back step was which I realized as I fell. There was no chance to pause, or even for some help to yell. Down I went just like a lump, to land on cold ground below. Back of the head I did bump, blood pooling in the snow. Coating frozen ground below my head, I lay there helpless and forlorn, if help didn't come soon I'd be dead, because I'd gone so stupidly airborne.

His hair is slick from hair goop, He doesn't want his to doo to droop. The cold wind blew but his hair didn't budge, When he went to the store to buy some fudge. The coat of ice on the sidewalk did shine, Like the locks of his which were starting to unwind. His big mop of orange hair was frozen in time, Now I just have one more word to rhyme. Some think he's smooth as glass, personally I think he's a a$$.

The morning's hair slicked back cold its hair pins tight glass icicles glinted, the geese down below sporting a coating we hoorahed the frozen smear off the windshield, prepared, the tires digging down the driveway galomping up onto the road.

I sadly couldnt galomp, moving a car meant sliding it into things, like ditches and rather like pinball. Lovely as always, quite descriptive

@sallypup me too, if the roads arent better by tomorrow I may just call in, and take the hit. I could get fired if I call in too much, but I've already worked 3-4 days each week, and the min is 2, so hopefully that would make up for it. I am just terrified of the roads atm

@Jessicalynnt This is one of my worst efforts. I am quite worried about the upcoming week and the idea of us being a pinball.

Oregon December Tree limbs this week grew heavy, burdened by frozen rain, soon becoming a coating of ice, they drooped, broke, crashing through power lines, more than a few roofs. Roads, slick as glass, deceived drivers, who went sliding off into frozen ponds. Cold lingers in homes without power, hot water a thing we enjoyed last week.

@JamesHxstatic this is deff not a good time of year for that. This house doesn't even have a wood stove, and I wish it did. I worry about that very thing, no heat and then what!

@Jessicalynnt Thanks very much. We were not personally affected but many others are still without power. I talked to a number of them yesterday at work.

The way she left that October day Had more a feel of December She was slick as ice in parting The cruelty I remember No goodbye passed her lips As I sat, frozen in place She was hard, cold, aloof Teflon coating her face At the last, I reached for her Too late, of course, but true Through the glass, I watched her leave And my live, my love, was through

that's sad! And well done. but sad.... -sniffs-. And just... well I keep getting stuck on sad. The end of things can be bittersweet, but as humans, we aught to try harder to avoid the cruelty, life is hard enough as it is without that.

Momma said not to lick my lips when outside in the cold. She stood in the warmth of our home watching from behind the glass. Watching as I trudged through the fluffy white snow that was still falling, coating the ground at a fast pace. And then in a flash my tongue flickered across my dry lips, wetting them. My lips felt cold and frozen from the bitter air. Momma told me not to lick my lips. But, I didn't listen.

I hope you're all right. Ice is dangerous. Better salt those steps. Good poem about the need to be cautious in weather like this.
