The Genie in the lamp...

Maybe THAT is what Scar is doing. Rubbing the lamp and waiting for the Genie to appear and grant Him three wishes. Like Milk...and Tuna...and Bacon. Or maybe Out. But every morning, at least once, He starts rubbing the lamp. At least today I made sure the flash was on so he wouldn't look like a rabbit or a crow...

He's just marking the lamp as his and not yours.

@JolietJake If it is a touch lamp , he will be surprised of it switching on and off by his touch . I can just imagine his face !

Is it warm or something? Cats do like to rub things.

It doesn't really generate much warmth, and he does it during the summer as well...I think he just likes petting himself, because he'll do it if you hold a finger out to him.

@JolietJake .....Cats just enjoy doing that. It's all about pheromones and such. Here's a link about it:
Cats are equipped with glands that secrete pheromones, which are substances produced by insects, animals and humans that act as a form of chemical communication. Pheromones are akin to fingerprints in humans, and their presence is a calling card of sorts.

@celticeagle It isn't about enjoying doing that either, the article says they conquer the whole world by rubbing each thing. Humans included!

Maybe he just likes the flash. Or the heat of the lamp.

Now if you could just get that stubborn itch, Scar wouldn't keep rubbing the lamp.

I've had to keep a closer watch since he killed one a few weeks back...couldn't get mad at him over it, but I'd rather he didn't

It must be nice and warm for him to do that. Sometimes cats like their face gently rubbed, so maybe he's going there for that. He sure is a character that Scar, isn't he?

I think it is the face-rub...he'll do that if you are standing there with him at your feet and hold a finger down to him.

He's been doing it for ages, but I usually don't have my camera ready when he does it. I saw him start staring at it this morning so I got the camera ready.

He only seems to do it once a day, but it is every day. He spends about 20-30 seconds rubbing it.

You have to tell him that this is not the magic lamp. No matter how many times he rubs it, his wishes will not come true It is better to please the master and perhaps he can have better food

We have a black lop-eared rabbit that we've decided is a black-hole when it comes to photos. It doesn't matter whether the lighting is good or whether we use a flash, he looks like an amorphous black blob in every photo we've taken of him. Of course his fur isn't glossy like Scar's appears to be.

They rub things to leave their scent. They also rub things if you want them NOT to rub things. It must feel good to him or something. You did remind me of a cat story I will have to post, something I found funny.

Did he get his wish granted? He must enjoy the feel of the binding on the outer edge of the lampshade. Or as you said, maybe waiting for that grant wishing genie to appear.

Nice image. Cats can get up to some things. We have a lot of wild ones here and they are always amazing me with their agility as our Dog tries to chase them but they are always much faster than him.
