Love Affair, Movie (1939)

The story is about a French painter, Michel Marnet, (Charles Boyer) and American singer Terry McKay, (Irene Dunne) who meet and fall in love on a cruise. They are both engaged and his notoriety and popularity lead them to decide they need to dine separately and not be seen together on the ship. Their cute conversation and the way they try to stay away from one another is both clever and rather amusing. It is a very romantic and gripping movie, especially the last scene when Michel has found Terry and comes to visit her not knowing what has happened to her. The last scene will pull at your heart strings if you have the least bit of a romantic bone in your body. The remake(An Affair To Remember - 1957) was good but not as good as the original. Cary Grant is good and so is Deborah Kerr are good but the facial expressions of Charles far out shadow those of Cary in that heart wrenching last scene.
