Got Grits?

Bowl of Hot Grits - YUM

I adore grits! Yes - those tiny bits of corn that have been milled down to a fine course powder and boiled in hot flavored water - ready to eat in minutes and sticks to your ribs! I remember when I was in High School - way back in the previous century (literally) there was a morning radio show that had a theme song that went kinda like this: (sung with hill billy accents) Jump outta bed comb yo head spray yo pits n eat yo grits it was an earworm that would last for years - I still can't get it out of my head - oyie! Anyhoo - when I lived & worked abroad for 12 years - Grits was a home style comfort food that would consistently call my name. Finding grits in Asia is no small feat. I would pack grits in my suitcase on every trip home & back into the wilds. Once - a dear friend spent a ludicrous amount on postage to send me an English pound of grits. It was scrumptious! It was horded & saved for very special occasions - and offered only to VIP guests. A favorite was to cook some bacon first, then add crisp bacon bits & a splash of bacon dripping to the creamy grits with just a touch of butter to soften the bacon flavor. YUM. Think I'll have some for dinner!

I enjoy grits, too. I ordered them with breakfast about two weeks ago. Yummy!

Enjoy! I brought grits earlier this year at the store and never made it. I might do it next week or the following week for my breakfast or brunch. I haven't had it in a long time.

You'll have something to look forward too :) I used to pass over the grits often enough before the expatriate years - it's really an undervalued food - no fat but from the butter yas add & no cholesterol either. And so many ways to dress it up. I've found a reciepe for "fried patty grits" - I'll have to post an update on how it turns out ;) Thank you @KristenH for stopping by for a read - Happy Holidays!

Ick. The only time I ever tried grits I hated them. I guess its a good thing I hate them because of my serious, life threatening allergy to corn. Still, I know lots of folks who love the stuff. As a D*mned Yankee in Texas, its a good thing I never developed a taste for grits, hush puppies, corn bread dressing or even corn bread. Yeah, corn dogs, corn chips and the like also never cross my lips.
