Planning New Years Eve and New Years day Menu

December 27, 2016 7:47pm CST
So we plan on having company for New Years Eve and I decided to start planning the menu so I can put together my weekly grocery list. For New Years Eve Im doing sort of a buffet style so that everyone can go in as they please and I don't have to be in the kitchen half the time. For New Years Eve it's going to be mainly a seafood theme and few other foods for those like my son who don't like seafood. There's going to be fish and shrimp and mac n cheese and a dip that can go on different types of bread. Im also going to make some cookies. New Years day will consist of pork lion, my grandma's special scalloped cabbage and mash potatoes. Do any of you have special foods for New Years Eve or New Year's day?

That seafood buffet sounds delicious. Mom always had a tradition to add black eyed peas to the New Years dinner but I don't do that.

Thank you. Having something with cabbage in it on New Years day was a tradition my grandmother started.

@AutumnSnow We have a traditional dish here in the southern US. We eat collard greens (bring in wealth) and black-eyed peas (for good luck) and cornbread (the pantry remains full) and roasted meat - there's debate on which meat to serve. The meat is mostly a hailback from a time when not every meal had meat & feeding your children meat more often usually meant that your children would grow strong & healthy. In my house - there's still room for pizza on the table

That all sounds soo good yes we can never leave out pizza That is the idea behind cabbage my grandmother once told me that if you have cabbage at the first of the year it's thought to be good luck.

Your menu sounds really good! We will be moving our stuff into our house on New Years Eve so we won't have time to do anything for it. I hope you enjoy your food and company!
