Trump's Remarks On Nukes - Are the Trumpsters Scared Yet???

WWIII, nuclear holocaust, Trump

Early in the campaign I half joked that if Donald Trump won he'd get us into World War III within hours. I was serious that he'd do that but I never dreamed he'd win. So, here we are, he's taken to Twitter, of all things, to announce to the whole world that we need to expand our nuclear capabilities then he goes on TV, over the phone anyway, and says we'll start an arms race. Trumpsters, are you scared YET? Are you still living by that ridiculous "Take him seriously but not literally" mantra? I grew up in the era in which we were instructed by our teachers to get under our desks in the even of a nuclear attack; obviously that wouldn't save us but I guess they felt they had to LOOK like they were doing something in case the apocalypse happened. The thing is I've realized as I've gotten older that we really weren't in that much danger back then because as much as we had major disagreements with the other super-powers of the world I knew their leaders weren't crazy and neither were ours. Well, guess what? There are now some crazy leaders in this world and some of them have or will soon have nukes. One of them will be ours in 23 days. So, are we scared yet? I SURE AM!!

He's a lot of big-talk, and nothing more. 'Yeah,' I imagine you would reply, "But his 'big talk' has gotten lots & lots of people to do lots & lots of stupid things! (lots of good things too, but those don't 'earn him forgiveness' for the stupid things')" And this is where we are reminded that we have to protect our free thoughts before we can claim our free speech or -other rights---whatever 'stupid things' Herr Drumpf commands, it is always our 'free choice' to refuse his demands (even in the military, to a degree ... i.e. the soldier always follows the commander-in-chief's commands, but the sub-commander? I dunno.)

I have a feeling there may be SOME within the military who would refuse to follow his orders if they were totally outrageous and threatening to our very existence but there are also some who would follow him straight to hell. You may recall his idiotic words at the RNC Convention when, in his speech, he said, "I and I alone..."; the thing is, he and he alone will have control over our nukes once he's sworn in on January 20. Don't make any plans or appointments for Jan. 21 and beyond...

@mythociate I neglected to ask you before what "good things" has his stupid talk gotten lots of people to do? I've yet to see anything good come from anything he's said or done. Except for himself and his kids, of course.

Same here on all counts. The cavalier way some people are reacting to his downright horrifying remarks makes me even more afraid.

There seems to be an abundance of crazy leaders these days! Its a very real and scary part of todays world. If its this crazy now what will it be in 5 yrs? 10yrs? 20 yrs? Maybe we dont want to know :(

Put it this way, IF we're still here - and that's a BIG if - in 5 years I'm pretty sure we'll have a different President, hopefully one that's NOT deranged and thin-skinned enough to be baited by a tweet to launch nuclear missiles. Since he does most of his tweeting in the wee hours of the morning maybe we'll at least be "lucky" enough to die in our sleep...

I am terrified, I never thought he would win either, I hope all that voted for him is watching him now. I love his tweets, it proves what an idiot he really is and just how dangerous he is talking about things that shouldn't be talked about on social media. Also his whining is so obvious - what adult does that??? I hope they give him a mental test soon. I'm thinking Obama pushing his buttons is a good thing, maybe the doctors will insist the narcissist take a mental test.

I am very scared about what he is saying ... and what he is likely to do. He is already picking fights with half the world. Scary.

I feel exactly the same way. I grew up during the cold war but I've never been this scared. He doesn't care because either he's too ignorant to care or he just figures he'll take himself and his family and get in the bunker. The rest of us can go to hell, just like the attitude he's had his entire miserable life.

@anniepa - It is sad, but I agree that that is the attitude he has had his entire life!

I'm not scared. Truth be told, we are behind in the race, which is why he said what he said. Following through is different, Congress controls the checkbook.

Behind in WHAT race? The US and Russia have 95% of the nuclear weapons in the world with us with the most, so how are we behind? Every President for the last half century has worked towards FEWER nukes, not MORE. I'm sorry but with all due respect, if you're not scared you should be.

@Plethos Actually we have a very few more than Russia and both nations have gotten rid of some in recent years. We need to get rid of lots more. How many times do we need to be able to destroy the planet? I think once will do it! And I'm afraid Trump WILL do it...

@anniepa - the u.s. hasn't made any in 20+ years, and supposedly Russia has more than the u.still. or the rest of the countries. So basically American nukes are out dated.
