We have a mouse!

An unwanted guest, visitor if you will. Monday night I spotted something pretty large skittering across the dining room floor. My roomies kind of didnt believe me but did after finding some mouse poop in the shower (gross!). We think we know how it got in - during a day where we had heavy rain and extremely heavy wind - this small weird door flew off the side of the house. We think he maybe snuck in then. Since Monday I have had d-con traps set up baited with peanut butter, dog food, and cheese. No takers so far. In fact, my roommates found some of the fridgerator insultion scattered on the floor - so they decided to check underneath it - and bam! This big mouse snuck out and was too quick for them to catch. Gah! Its kind of scary sleeping in the mean time . I keep expecting to wake up to a mouse on my pillow! Any advice or wisdom to share? Ever had this problem? Also some random facts I found online: 1. A mouse has the sense of smell several times better than dogs. They are supposedly repelled by the smell of peppermint and cloves. Also for some reason dislike tin foil. 2. Supposedly peanut butter works better than cheese in traps. 3. They dislike high pitched noises. Not sure how those will help me at all, but I thiught it was interesting!

I don't envy you this problem at all. I've never had to deal with mice so I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Me neither. And its hard to know if there is one or several. Only one sighting so far. Feels definitely like unneeded stress in my book.

@maezee Best advice I could give in a situation like this is to try to make sure the mice don't have a way to get in, if that's possible. If a mouse got in by accident, as you suspect...well, nothing you can do about that. But if you happen to find any hole in a wall somewhere, be sure to close it up. Good luck!

We have an ultra sound mouse deterrent. I find the old fashioned snap mouse trap is still the most effective. Maybe I should just give in and get a cat.

True. Those do seem efficient. There is a dog in the household so we did not want any accidents that way
