One Last Death to End the Year

I don't know if you heard or not, but I just went to a site to find the list of all those celebrities and famous people in all fields of entertainment, sports, and politics who passed last year, and found one not mentioned and got lost in the shuffle of the last days with the passing of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
William Christopher, otherwise known as Father Mulcahy on M.A.S.H. passed on December 31, at the age of 84, from cancer.
In all, counting the last three that hadn't gotten on the official list, there were 59 deaths in 2016. Considering there are only 52 weeks in a year, that's a lot of celebrities who passed away in 2016.

I did hear (well, read) of this one. Your list is very short. Someone stated 68 celebrities. An article stated 130. My sister @dougalrie noted at least 280 celebrity deaths. I would suppose, though, that it might depend on your idea of 'celebrity' and, probably, where you are in the world. Many on my sister's list were 'national treasures' of the UK but not necessarily known in other parts of the world. I doubt, for example, that many outside of the UK would know the names Victoria Wood, Ronnie Corbett, or Caroline Aherne. Then, I believe, some lists would have included science people such as Vera Rubin or Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, amongst others.

I agree, the list I looked at was short. I know that TCM did a salute to all the actresses and actors and anybody in the movie industry who passed and that would have been an international list. John Glenn's name was on the list I looked at, but not Edgar Mitchell, that I can remember anyway.

I always enjoyed Father Mulcahy on MASH and felt bad when I saw he passed. Yes, it was a very bad year for celebrities dying

There were more than 59 if you count every ballplayer, foreign celebrities little known in the US and many once well known but now forgotten actors from the past.

Wow, that's a high number indeed. What do you suppose might be the reason for this?

That is a lot of deaths in one year. Don't ever remember a year like that before.
