Stuck in a writing rut

Remember I've told you about one agent asked for a Revise and Resubmit for Venom last November? Though she liked the concept and plot, she said it needed a lot of work. She did agree to a R&R, if I hired a professional editor. Well, I've heard back from that small pub on the full for Venom over this weekend. Other than some minor grammar errors, they've asked for a R&R and wanted me to work on characterization and dialogue. But overall, it was a good evaluation for Venom with some potential to make it awesome. Now I'm stuck in a writing rut, so to speak. I'm going to try to hire an editor this month, if my brother agrees to it with my Upwork money. And if not, I'll send it through Grammarly for grammar errors and run it through my online crit list for feedback to work on those issues for free. So close and yet so far on this bumpy long road to publication....

I congratulate you on your persistence in following the more traditional path to publication. I hope all your effort brings you much success. I self-publish, but put my manuscripts through a three-layered editorial reading and proofreading process before my editor ever sees it. Over the years I think I've spent more time revising than writing the original manuscript.

Thanks DW. I've been editing Venom for about six years now, maybe a bit more. I just want an offer on a silver-plated tray with a YES on it. This is the equivalent of being short-listed in contests and never advancing to the final round.

I also self-publish as DW Davis does. Good luck and hang in there.

Hey Suzie. I'm trying. I might self-pub somewhere down the road as I'm in limbo over here.

I'm trying. I feel like I'm on a yo-yo or a roller coaster ride. Up, down and around.

@divalounger I've been there so long ago. That's harder too.

I hope you get here soon, put it through Grammarly first although at times it doesn't pick out all that is wrong, when I use it anyway, but it helps he no end.

Me too. Good idea. It would help me out with the easy stuff and leave the editing to an editor or my online crit list to tackle the rest.

Thanks Jekca. It's what keeps me hanging on by a very thin thread.

I know what you mean. I am more comfortable writing Wordgirl fan fictions on Archive Of Our Own and Devianart since my editor of my scripts had to censor the use of the words "Batgirl" the phrase "Lose the booze" and the words "Fun Bunch". How about that? I told him to jump into the Chagres River if he did not like it.

@KristenH I basically told Rainy Day Studios that they will have to be happy with my fan fictions if they are so sensitive to plugs from me to my favorite heroes.

Thanks. I deserve a break from rejections and need a much-deserved reward.

These final steps sound more annoying rather than difficult. Best of luck to you!

Thanks Judy. Yes it is. A lot of bumps and twisty turns and steep hills.

Good luck with everything. I've never tried anything quite as ambitious, although many years ago I did get 3 freelance humor articles published in the Sunday NY Times Connecticut section.
