What were these people thinking?! put a leash on it like a dog and then painted it's back with a label sea guardian? That's not protecting the animal, that's abuse and disgracing it!
The cops should have arrested them for doing that instead of posing pictures with them, this was so immature.
What do you think of this? Just too immature for them to be handling endangered turtles.
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is looking into reports that members of the Bantay Dagat (Sea Patrol) wrote markings on the shell of a rescued sea turtle in Silay City.

They should have reprimanded them and that cop should have been suspended @SIMPLYD and who ever painted the turtle should have been jailed.

Poor sea turtle. Some people need to be educated. They just don't know what they're doing at all.
Happy new year!

@Letranknight2015 They're education is limited to what's being taught in school.

their excuse is that they run out of tags, usually sea turtles are tagged when they were released in the ocean.

@Letranknight2015 They should have waited for tags to arrive instead of being impatient on releasing the turtle.

Well, they didn't have to post a picture on it @CaptAlbertWhisker or they could have called for assistance or get new tags.

Now, that's a good reason NOT to mess with their shells @JudyEv

The turtle is alive @scarlet_woman but what was done to her was too much insult to the animal's well being.

I hope the authorities manage to find the people who were responsible for this, it's just mean and awful.

Well, I'm sure they did since they are in the picture @cahaya1983 which serves evidence of their wrong doing.

They're so ignorant! Instead of protecting the turtle they damaged its shell!

Maybe they are protecting it @acelawrites but they became ignorant about putting leash and painting it's shell.

Was the turtle left alive? I hope so. I think it's a shame. Don't deface the animal, don't put a leash on it that will hinder it's natural ability to move around

I agree they shouldn't have put a leash on it since it's not really going anywhere unlike the dog @FayeHazel I hope they let go of this turtle.
