Do You Follow?

It's happened to me a few time recently. Members following me without ever visiting my posts. I don't really care as I don't tend to use my followers list anymore. It still baffles me as to why they blindly follow without any interaction. I tend to find my regular followers on numerous posts I read. I also like to go through recent discussions and new user discussions. This way I get to meet new people. There is the odd occasion I'll go through my followers list and have a purge. I used to want to be notified when followers submit a new post but I can see that notifications would be flooded. Do you stick to your list of followers?

Nope, I only 'follow' 6 accounts and they are all Admin accounts. Don't have any use to follow people, I see every discussion that gets posted by scrolling through 'Most Recent Discussions' several times a day.

I haven't followed anyone for ages and like you I check new discussions. It can be a pain when some people are posting every few minutes though.

@Gillygirl I got blocked by a new user this morning because they sent me a message asking if I wanted to follow them and I said no

@JolietJake Honestly the flippin cheek of some people. I doubt the new user will be of any loss to you.

I don't really subscribe the follower's thing at all. If people follow me? Wonderful. I don't follow people anymore, though I am sure that I still have a few "followed" from when I did start to do so. I just go via the "most recent." I'm not on here very often at any rate, or atleast I wasn't.

I like using recent discussions but it can be a pain when the same person is submitting a new discussion every few minutes.

@Gillygirl Yes, that seems to happen a lot more during the early morning hours here, US Time. I see people posting discussions back to back and that's when I tend to close out.

I try and get round commenting on followers posts as much as possible but sometimes I am limited by time.

they just add us in the hope that we follow them and comment-like their stuff - they have no interest in actually reading anything - they don't realize that without interacting back they will be forgotten quickly and ignored

Very true I also find that I comment several times on certain members posts but they never reciprocate. These have a low number of likes against their user names.

@Gillygirl people will give up on us if they talk to someone a dozen times with nothing coming back - we can't reply to everything but we should always appreciate our regular contacts as much as possible

@arthurchappell Yes I agree, I have my regulars such as you and try to keep a manageable list. I'm finding it better to interact now my health has improved.

I've reduced my list of those I follow way down. Yes, those people who follow without ever responding to your post are definitely one of life's mysteries. I suspect they hope we'll blindly follow in return.

Lol perhaps they'll say hello one day. I am finding it isn't necessary to follow. I can understand newbies needing a list of followers but I can find the posts I want to read easily enough.

Yes that is a good way to do it. Some people stick to followers only. This is a shame as there is so much worth reading on here. I have followers but keep to a manageable number.

Do you follow them if they have never interacted with you? I get quite a few who have never visited my posts.

@Gillygirl No. I have no interest in following those people.

Not really, I read posts that I find interesting regardless of whether they're my followers (or I follow them) or not. You get to build connections with more people that way.

I agree with you, I have followers and their posts are interesting. However I don't limit my interaction to my followers.

I do not follow back it is ridiculous. I follow those who I interact with on a regular basis.

Me too Belle, I check out recent discussions and sometimes new user discussions and find some good material but to blindly follow is silly.

I haven't followed anyone since last fall. I'm happy for new followers. But I'm with you. I don't follow it as much as I used to. I will follow the ones I like from time to time like you.

I don't feel it's really necessary unless a member is new. When I joined I already knew some people from another site but still needed a list back then.

In fact sometimes I don't understand why some Mylotters follow me. Since we will not have more interactions. If I follow someone here, be sure this Mylotters seem to be very active or friendly. I always check my friends' new discussions at first. I like to have nice friends here.

I ... I really don't know. I'm kind of a 'writer for fun,' and so don't feel like this is "our job." I guess I feel like we're all just 'writers for fun' here; if anyone reads it or not, cool I guess people start 'following you without reading your posts' for the same reason they 'friend' you on Facebook (when they're just joining it, anyway)---because of 'what you say on your profile' or in your characteristics-lists (gender, location, occupation, etc.)
Garfunkel and Oates sing about writing "Happy Birthday!" on someone's Facebook wall.

I am often short of time. I come here randomly. If I open a post, I check the responses of a few, may be interact and leave. A few friends, I pester till they give up and put up with me. I usually arrive when I am very drowsy ..so I may not be doing a good job of you scratch my back and I will scratch yours kind...:) But I do interact somewhere or the other. :)

I had a bad year last year as I was frequently absent from the site due to illness. I read a very interesting post of yours earlier.
