Is it safe to apply oil on baby? / myLot

I bought Advitamin oil for the child. Although the doctor did not give specific instruction to apply oil to the child during bath, I apply the oil once in 5 days. It is winter now in Kolkata. I am wondering it is the right way.

I agree to what @shayna have said,it certainly soothess and smoothens the skin,I also used it to my two sons when they are months old but seldom now.

Thanks Galavia, I will also apply the oil frequently. I am waiting for the winter season to subside.
