Stupid Swagbucks!

United States

Alright, so I have been on Swagbucks long enough to know that after the push for earnings at the end of the year, the earning potential is going to be greatly diminished at the beginning of the new year. I have also been in the position where I didn't have nCraves and nGage, so I had to reach my goals with Watch, JunGroup and other means. It is not the optimal situation, but it is doable. Today, though, I do not have any more nCraves, nGage or JunGroup. I went to Watch to run through some playlists, and I keep getting this message "Oops! Watch Is Currently Unavailable. Although we do not have any earning opportunities available for you today, we encourage you to check back tomorrow for more playlists." How the heck are we supposed to earn money on there with no earning options?! Are you frustrated with Swagbucks or any other online earning sites? Do you find that earning opportunities on websites dries up at the start of a new year?

Swagbucks is no longer a priority for me. I will do what I can but can't spend 12 hours a day for a dollar or less. There are other things I need to do.

Oh yes, there are a lot of things I need to accomplish in a day, so I definitely understand what you are saying! That is actually one of the reasons why I normally like Swagbucks, though, because you can earn without actually having to be at the computer all day. I was earning approximately $4 per day there (not including bonuses), so it was worth my time. If I spent 12 hours per day and barely made a dollar, on the other hand, then I don't think I would bother with it, either.

@akalinus I went through a stretch where I had no nCraves and no nGage. I did mostly the Watch and JunGroup. It took longer but was still able to meet both my daily goals. The surveys are crap ... I have earned decently on them a couple of times, but mostly I get DQ'd most of the way through them. I only do the Discover offers occasionally during the team challenges, because as you say "they are a crapshoot" with getting paid.

@purplealabaster I can't do surveys, I don't have encraves most of the time,I did a whole bunch of "all you can eat" the other day and got no credit. My security blocks almost everything. Also, if I do Tank Top Girl, the screen loads but the videos don't play. The Discover offers are a crapshoot whether they will credit or not. Most things, if I do one, are not available anymore.

I have pretty much given up on everything except mylot. I do however sell stuff on ebay and etsy but all of this is mostly just for fun.

I look at myLot as "just for fun", because it does not pay enough for me to consider it an online earning site, even though we do get a few cents for putting in our "two cents" worth. Swagbucks actually is normally a pretty good earning site, and it is one of the main ones that I use, which is why it is so frustrating when I cannot earn there. It makes the difference between taking some good vacations and having a larger Christmas and scaling back on Christmas and not going many places on vacation (well, they are more like day outings to amusement parks and such, but it is what we do for vacation). I know some people who do pretty well selling stuff on eBay, but I know others who have completely bombed doing it. I think that looking at it as mostly for fun is a great way to view it.

@fishtiger58 That is a good amount of profit! I use my online earnings for vacations and Christmas as well, so I know how great it feels when you can watch the money accumulate! I like that you have such a great attitude when things do not sell. I really think that is one of the things that makes someone a good business person ... when they can stay positive despite an undesired outcome.

@purplealabaster I make between 800 and just over 1000 profit now for the last 3 years. I love knowing my profit and it pays for Christmas for us, but still I do it for fun and something to do. I do get tickled when I sell something, I never get upset when I don't. That would take all the fun out of it.

I've been playing videos on Swagbucks all day with no problems. I have noticed though that I haven't gotten any e-mails from Mypoints lately, where as I was getting like 5 a day at the end of the year last year.

@purplealabaster mypoints is a little like Swagbucks. They send you emails worth 5 points, there's videos and shopping.. Earning has seemed to get harder on Swagbucks. I used to reach payout monthly.. but haven't done so in a long time.

@katsmeow1213 I can usually cash out for at least four $25 giftcards per month there without much issue. It doesn't seem like I will be doing that this month, but we shall see. I have already cashed out for one and am almost ready to do my second.

Yeah, today the Watch is working just fine, but yesterday it was not. I had nCraves for a little while today. They weren't there in the morning, appeared for a little while in the middle of the day, and then disappeared again. Thankfully, I did reach my first minimum goal, but I have no hope of reaching my second minimum today. In fact, I don't think I have reached the second minimum at all this month. Is Mypoints like Swagbucks? It sounds like they send you e-mails when they have an activity for you to complete. Is that how it works? I guess that things just slow down at the beginning of the year and then pick up again after a couple of months.

@DaddyEvil It is great that you are able to do that. I earn fairly well there just doing nCraves, JunGroup and nGage with Watch as a go-to when nCraves are not available. It just bothers me that there are NONE of the main earning activities available at the moment. Sure, you can still try for a survey or Discover offer, but we all know how unreliable those are not to mention how long the surveys actually take versus how much you earn for doing them.

Hmmm... apparently, Pretty has gone to sleep. I know she is still working on Swagbucks, because I still have been getting notifications from her PayPal account that she is adding money to it from there. I know I am still earning there, too. I am picking up some of the stuff you buy through Swagbucks and re-selling the items on eBay. Since I get them for half price on Sb, I can still sell them at almost full price and people believe they are getting bargains. I make almost twice the earnings that way and most of it is picked up in just a few minutes.

@purplealabaster I quit trying to do surveys last year, except when Pretty tells me we get credit for them even if they don't work. (That happened once this last year.) IKR? Why do they say a survey will take 10 minutes and you are still filling it out 30 minutes later? I used to complain about that! Nothing ever happened when I complained, though.

I saw your comment elsewhere and decided to look you up. I had the swagbutton on my browser, but it quit working and I've not updated it yet. When I was using chrome I used the swagbucks search and that provided me with some points about every three or four searches, so that was helpful. I've not cashed out in several years although I probably could get something about now since I think I have over a thousand points. I think there's a regular ebb and flow to most web sites especially when people are there a lot before the payment deadline. They probably need to do things at home right afterward again.

I am sorry that I missed your comment until now! The payouts were different before, and there used to be a maximum amount you could cash out for each month. Now, they offer as low as $3 cashout options and many $5 options. There might be a maximum amount of times you can cash out for each item per month still (I think it was five times each, so you could only cash out for five $25 Amazon giftcards, for example, and then you would have to change denomination or store), but I haven't reached that yet. I do split up my money between Amazon and Paypal, though. If you have over a thousand points, then you surely can cashout for something.

@MarshaMusselman Each swagbuck is worth $.01, so 1,000 Swagbucks would be $10. I usually cash out for $25.00 giftcards, and I have enough to cash out again now. I will wait until my balance builds up a little more, though, because I find it depressing to cash out and then have an extremely low balance.

I have gotten very lazy this year. I did VERY well the past 3 or so years on Swagbucks . . . even when they started taking away certain activities, I still made do somehow. I didn't have any nCraves anymore and nGage wasn't reliable. JunGroup was a sometimes maybe. But then it got too busy during the summer and then I just never returned - though I aim to eventually. I know I've seen people complain about them taking more and more earning opportunities . . . did they take more stuff away? I'll have to see what's up there for myself soon . . . if there is a drought there too, I probably won't dive back into it like I used to.

I didn't have nCraves for a while, and nGage is always a "hit or miss", even when I have them, although I didn't have them for the entire time I didn't have the nCraves. I still managed to make my daily goals through Watch and JunGroup and Watch in the Swagbutton. Now I have the nCraves back, but they do not pay as well for each activity, and they disappear as soon as you do them. They do come back throughout the day, but it is not consistent. I know it will get better in a month or two, because it seems to go in a cycle like that. It is frustrating when the earnings take so much longer, but I can deal with that. When we do not have anything to do to be able to earn, though, that is ridiculous!

@much2say "it's much harder to make lemonade when there are barely any lemons in the tree!" I love how you phrased that! I do have nCraves, but they disappear and reappear throughout the day. It is very time consuming. I am not even trying to make my second goal these days but rather just say "thank you" when I actually make my first goal.

@purplealabaster So you eventually got nCraves back? I should really go check to see if they came back for me . . . it's been a long time. For a while I was doing well on qualifying for surveys again . . . I sure love to see those SBs jump up in big numbers rather than the slow piddly few we get for those videos. I suppose nothing is really consistent there these days. History does seem to show that it gets better towards Spring. In the meantime it can be pretty time consuming - yah and it's much harder to make lemonade when there are barely any lemons in the tree!

@purplealabaster I do try to go back on the playlist and it shows I have watched them all. Maybe I haven't completely watched the video? I just don't do that type altogether anymore. I will give it another try! I have heard of the swagbutton and good results but I personally haven't downloaded it. Safari doesn't allow it so I'd have to use a different browser. Thank you for your tips! :)

@infatuatedbby I have to use Chrome, because Swagbucks does not work right on Firefox. I did not like downloading the Swagbutton at first, because it does track the websites that you visit, but I have found that it has more advantages than disadvantages. I get credit for online purchases, and I also get discounts through Swagbucks on many items when purchasing online from other websites with the Swagbutton active not to mention the earnings from Watch on the Swagbutton. There are times when it says that I have watched all the videos as well, but most times I find that I did not completely watch (or rather get credit for watching) one of the videos. Sometimes it is difficult to find which video it is, especially on the longer playlists, so sometimes I have to check two and three times to find the right one.

@infatuatedbby That is a good question about being able to get cash back on two sites. I would try it if I were you, because that would definitely help the budget! Also, if you are using another site to get cashback deals, then I don't think the Swagbutton would track any differently than the other site does. It only activates (or at least they say it only activates) on sites where you are able to purchase things, such as WalMart or Amazon or eBay, etc. I have never seen it activate on a gaming site where you can make in-game purchases, for example.

Oh, 2016 was my first full year on Swagbucks and I just glanced on my records it looked like my earnings were pretty steady from the end of 2015 to the first three months of 2016. I have not been on there too much for the last few months so I'm not sure if the earning opportunities declines at the start of 2017. I earn on there mostly from answering surveys and it pretty much depends on my luck if there's one available for me or not all throughout the year, it seems...

I think that surveys are one of the worst ways to earn on there, but it seems that there are quite a few people who only earn there through surveys and searches. I guess that would affect how you earn, because the surveys may remain steady throughout the year. The nCrave video amounts get changed from time to time, so the exact same playlist could earn you 5 Swagbucks today and 2 Swagbucks tomorrow. The Watch playlists are also changed occasionally. They used to have two and three video playlists for 1 or 2 Swagbucks, but now the lowest is six video playlists to earn just 1 Swagbuck. In December, they had nCraves which paid 10 Swagbucks, but now it is rare if the nCraves pay over 3 Swagbucks. The nGage were worth 4 Swagbucks, and now they are back to just 2 Swagbucks.

@sishy7 I am not sure whether or not nCraves are available in Australia. I think someone said they are not available in Canada. If they are available and you just can't get them, then there are a few things you can try to get them back. First, does the daily "To Do" list work for you? There is a daily nCrave available on that. If that doesn't work, then you probably do not get nCraves. If it does, then I can tell you a couple of things to try in order to be able to get them.

That sucks that you do not have other earning opportunities. However, the daily search is worth more than 1 cent, so you are doing better than that. Oh wait, you are talking about the search in the "Daily Activities", aren't you, rather than from a daily search win? Then that would only be 2 cents. Can you get search wins from regular searches? It would not be much, but it would at least triple (normally it would be more than triple) your daily earnings.

Yes, it is true with content writing. In January a lot of clients move to other sites. In my case, I figured out that you should do a minimal registration with as many as you can all year long. Trust, when those companies get a big load of new clients, (i.e., work), they reach out asking for complete registration and writing samples.

@sherryericha So you work and learn at the same time? That seems like a good thing, especially if you are interested in any of those things you are learning about. I know somebody who used to make a decent amount of money selling user profiles on gaming websites. He would put a bunch of hours into playing and building up a character, and then he would sell that character to a gamer who could not reach that level without help. He got the best of both worlds, because he had fun playing games and then made money off it. I just couldn't understand why someone would pay money for that, but there are clearly some people who will.

I do the daily bonus, which is sometimes the only nCraves that I have. I use the search engine when I search, and I do get the search earnings, but it is never a daily thing. That all does add up, but I always try for the monthly streak, because that is a real earnings boost. I usually earn $9 to $14 and up just from the monthly bonus for reaching the daily minimum and streaks. I have heard of Crowdtap, but I am not that familiar with it. Is it related to CrowdSource? I can certainly understand why you would be frustrated by them always wanting more just to pay you the same rate!

I really don't bother with Swagbucks, not a big earner for me, and the videos have virus attached to them. I only go there, when they are giving out a lot of swag codes or a birthday bash. Why would you stop doing it before you earned anything? I admit that it is extremely frustrating when we are not able to earn as well as we normally do, but it is still one of the best earning websites that I know of. Plus, you are able to cashout for so many different gift card options and amounts, and the first gift card each month (except for PayPal) is able to be purchased at a reduced amount.

@jillybean1222 That makes sense. It is very time-consuming. I like that the nCraves (when they work) are automatic, but you still have to close out of each one and start the next one. It does not tie you to the computer like some other sites do, but it still does require a good bit of attention, especially to make your minimum each day to get the streaks.

@TheHorse That is fantastic. It is wonderful when we can do things that we like to make money. I have had jobs I didn't like, but I needed to keep them to make money. I have also been in a position to turn down a better paying job to keep doing what I liked to do. For me, the latter felt wonderful, because I would much rather enjoy what I am doing (as long as I can make enough money to be comfortable) than to make more money but not be as happy with what I am doing. I know many people who do not understand that, but somehow I think you are the type of person who will know exactly what I am talking about.

I like myLot, but I need to actually make money online, so I am on other sites as well. I come to myLot for fun, because the other better paying sites are not fun. I can not see myself on an opinion site. I think that I am a very opinionated person ... right up until someone asks me what I think about things. I remember writing a response to you yesterday, but it is not here today! I agree. I do not like it, either. when websites take forever to earn and have really high payout minimums, especially if there is some doubt as to whether or not they might end up actually paying. I do like the fact that Swagbucks has options as low as $5 and as high as $500, so we can choose an amount that we are comfortable with. I always do the $25 giftcards, because I think that is a good amount. If I am having a bad month, though, then I can cashout for a lower amount without a problem.

@Jam4321 My computer was being glitchy yesterday, and it shut down on me a couple of times. I may have lost the response one of those times and not realized it. I do like the varied amounts and also the different options. I can build up my Amazon balance for my online Christmas shopping while also building up my Paypal balance for Christmas shopping in stores. Then during the year, if I need something from WalMart or Target or a different store, then I can always choose a giftcard from there as well.

@purplealabaster not sure what happened to it! Well that's the good part...the varied cash-out options and amounts.
