They're selling them in our regular store now. Not sure how long they'll stick around though. They tend to introduce at least one foreign fruit or veggie once a week and then we never see it again.

I have not seen either orange or purple cauliflower. There is broccoli of green color, which looks like a cauliflower. However, I have seen purple cabbage. You could ask the seller from where s/he got orange or purple cauliflower?

@cupkitties May be agriculturists would have tried to produce some unusual and new hybrid variety of cauliflower using genetic engineering. Innovations and experiments keep taking place now a days in every field, same could be expected in the field of growing new vegetables. PS - How are you doing? How is everything?

@dpk262006 I am doing great. Thank you for asking. According to the University of Arizona a smaller orange cauliflower was first discovered in Canada. It took years of cross breeding to get all the different colors available now.

I have had the purple cauliflower. It doesn't taste any different than the white. Still yummy.

Oh good. I kind of imagined the orange ones might taste similar to Cheetos.

@cupkitties well you wouldn't need to make a special cheese sauce for it if it indeed had that flavor.

Yes I've seen them but haven't tasted one. You can also get a few different colours of carrots too.

@Mike197602 Thank you for the info. So, they're not only better for you, but taste better. That's definitely a plus.

@cupkitties different colour carrots are called heritage varieties here. We are used to the orange ones but back hundreds of years ago there were all sorts of colours. I found this article.
Our forebears enjoyed carrots that were full of sweetness and flavour – and not always orange in colour. Carolyn Hart meets a grower who is bringing heritage varieties back to supermarket shelves.

I have heard of and seen Purple Cauliflower before. Have heard that these actually are supposed to be better for you. Just wondering what with that would not look like something you would be afraid to eat.

lol That's a little complicated. Some people are going to be freaked out by the vegetables color itself if it's not something they're used to. Then they may not mind that, but can they deal with purple soup broth, purple mashed cauliflower, purple stew, etc.?

I haven't seen any of the new colors yet. I will have to check the next time I go to Kroger's and see if they carry it.

@cupkitties It has been awhile since I checked produce at Kroger's. I have been doing more shopping on the other side of town at Aldi's and Walmart. As they are not far from each other.

I've only seen the white ones. Haven't seen other colors of cauliflower here in my country. I've seen the purple from Wise Wizard's post in the past when he visited the Farmer's Market.
