Fill on a half , winter wisdom - As winter has settled in on us I find that it is wise to fill my car's gas tank when it's hits a half.  Not only is this easier on your fuel pump - it also prevents situations like the following.  -- I had been lazy, it was cold outside and my car was down to running on fumes.  Finally I pulled in to a gas station.  I fit the fuel door release, and was getting ready to put gas in and low and behold... the fuel door wouldn't open.  I tried for a few minutes at the pump and then realized I must look crazy.  I pulled away tried so many things, the fuel door release inside the trunk, prying in it with a pocket knife, keys and other assorted items, pounding on it.  Nothing helped.  So I made it home and my dad and I worked on it.  The cold had frozen the spring release shut.  We got it, finally my wedging a knife in there and doing some slight modifications.  However if you fill on a half at least you will have enough gas to get to where you're going incase you should befall something like this. I had never thought of this happening so excellent advice to others in your writing this! Keeping a tank on half full will keep you from running out of gas and freezing out in the cold.

I used to fill my car when it hit freezing weather outside. That way you always have enough gas to warm your car up.

Winter always seems to add that little extra layer of precaution
