Facebook does have a purpose, for me it works

People complain about Facebook all the time, but many of those complainers continue to use the site. Yes, it can get very annoying, especially the last two years. But no one is forcing your hand or forcing you to use it. My thoughts are I try to take it as what it is....a bunch of folks saying stuff they probably don't have the nerve to say in person. People blow off steam, express things without thought. Sometimes I think many also say things just to piss off others. I have a button in my mind that I push - it's called the 'Ignore' button. It works for me...ignore and move on. With that said, I find it useful to reach out to many people for help, ideas, hints, thoughts, etc. Since many of my 'friends' are true friends it is easy to post a question on Facebook instead of trying to track down each one. I posted a question of my Facebook friends yesterday and within a few minutes I had a response. I asked if anyone had a recommendation for counter-top installers. Not only did my friend give me the name of the company he used recently but also a healthy recommendation regarding the quality of their work. After thanking him for the info I immediately went to the company's website. I will be calling them today to set the process in motion. I prefer getting a recommendation from someone I know (someone who is very picky I might add) than reading reviews written by strangers. Thanks, Facebook! I use it for local information while keeping in touch with my sister in real time and friends from all over the world. I don't sto off to read all the gossipy stuff and have no problems using it to know when there are events on locally, stuff on sale etc.

@AbbyGreenhill Many have nothing to do and love bathing in drama

@mysdianait I know quite a few like that. One person is a rather smart woman who has to ask on Facebook things like "What color should I paint my livingroom?", or do you think I should buy new curtains? Give me a break, why do you have to ask people the things you should know yourself. Its all for drama.

I completely agree with you. Facebook has indeed many advantages. Recently i came to know of a incident where one very wanted criminal was caught with the help of his facebook activities.

I really like that I have been able to reconnect with people I have not talked to in years. I also like the groups, one group in particular has taught me so much. I also like the games like Farmville.

That sounds like a positive outcome. I mainly interact on Facebook with real life family and friends, just occasionally sharing the joys of life.

@AbbyGreenhill right! I don't need Facebook to tell me what my 2017 relationship goal should be. A deeper dive it basically tells me "harass" some of my contacts... erm no

I'm a fan of Facebook. It gives me an opportunity to keep in touch with people I don't see often and of course my whole family is on there so we get to see what everyone is up to

That's the point of Facebook - to keep up with friends and family. All of our family/friends are back in New Jersey so it's much easier posting to one place for all to see.

I find it is a source of a great deal of misinformation. I have reached the point where even some family members have not been unfriended, but I have turned off notifications...I couldn't read the garbage they were sharing day after day.

I joined only to keep up with my Children who are all on Facebook and the messenger attached helped me keep in touch with them. My friends from all over the country have found me here and I enjoy chatting with them and hearing about their families and what is going on. A lot of old friends from other sites are on FB too and I enjoy that part - friends I've never met but have known for years...
