Why don't calendars start on Monday?

I mean, logically speaking, they should, right? The weekend consists of Saturday and Sunday. So they should be at the end. And The Big G...He worked Monday through Saturday and took Sunday (the seventh day) off... He took the seventh day off. Sunday. The seventh day. So why is it the first day of the week? Someone gots some 'splainin' to do...

Many countries do start their calendars on Monday which is an International standard, but Americans always seem to have their own standards. Well, sorta...kinda. ilocosboy is right. Americans use a calendar based on the Romans naming days of the week after planets with the first days named after the sun and moon -- Sunday & Monday. And speaking of the Big G. the Bible names the Sabbath which is really a Saturday as the day of rest. As far as the 'weekend' thing, that's just a conspiracy to infiltrate American sensibilities.
