.... @sissy15 made a post about all the firsts in her child's life and it made me think of the above poem that I found online. I found it hard to read without tearing up. Our children grow up so quickly and the years go by so fast. I sure do miss the days gone by when my children little. I am blessed to have grandchildren now and because I know how quickly they grown up, I treasure each and every moment that I get to spend with them.

I feel the same way, I was so young when my children were little I didn't realize how fast it would go and never return. Don't you wish sometimes you could just go back for one day of the grubby little hugs lol

I would like to go back to the time my grandsons were young. Now they are 16 and 19 and so tall, both over 6 foot. Where did that time go? They are still my "love bugs" and watch over me whenever we are together.

That does make me tear up. Time is just going by too fast, it's true with every first there is also a last, and I'm clinging to each moment with my son. He's so excited to grow up, and I'm over here trying to slow it down a little. Glad it could make you think.

I never realized growing up how fast time flew by but when I watched my kids grow up and then my grandsons, it kind of makes me sad. Time just flies by. Spend as much time with everything you cherish when you can before it slips away.

I agree, that brought tears to my eyes too! Having two kids of my own, I miss those days when they were so dependent on me for everything. Now that they are teenagers, they are gaining their independence now. I am no longer the center of their world. I certainly cherish all those memories we made as a family when they were younger. And thank goodness for photographs and memories to help remind us of all those wonderful times when our children were growing up.

@Happy2BeMe I'm going to be moving in about 4-5 weeks, and I already know that when I come across all the boxes of old photos, I'm going to pull them all out and look at them! Which will be great for nostalgic purposes, but not so great for a quick move!

@moffittjc By the sounds of your relationship with your children I think they are going to stay close to you throughout your life. My kids are with me and so are my grandsons and they are 16 and almost 20 and still love me and text me a lot.

Oh... I'm tearing up already. Just finished reading the poem and it is so true. My daughter made a mother's day present one year with a poem in the center with her little handprints all around the edges and telling me not to get mad at her for her hand prints on everything because one day she will be all grown up and I won't see them again. Okay... here I go again! But it is so true. Enjoy all of those little moments for all they are worth.

I'm crying right now. Its so true. Our son is 27, and my heart aches remembering all of those times, and our daughter, who would be 26 next month, she had more lasts then firsts, as she passed away very young in life. I'm glad that you shared this-even my husband is tearing up now after I read it to him!

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I cannot even imagine losing a child. I lost a boy friend at 20 years old and I saw first hand what his parents were going through. I don't think there is anything than the loss of a child.

When you're raising kids you think they'll never grow up and then one day they're adults and gone. I look back to those now "good old days" and wish I had a few more moments to enjoy them as babies etc. Thankfully I do have grandchildren but I see how fast they are growing too.

This poem you shared was beautiful and had me tearing up as well. I cherished every moment of my babies and cherish my time with them now that they are 12 and 9 still. They no longer need me the way they used to but I enjoy any time they choose to spend with me as they grow. I am going to screenshot the poem and share it on facebook!

It is a sad poem about a child's young life, but then I recall the other firsts that followed as they grew up and still did not leave you behind, but you walked beside them and became their confidante and best friend and watched them grow into a mature young man or woman, as they made their way into their future. You're not left behind. There are still plenty of firsts ahead.
