Watching the Chickens

Canada
January 16, 2017 9:43am CST
The photo attached to this is my grand-dog Zuzu when she was just a puppy. She was and still is adorable only now she is 5 times bigger. She is still skinny and runs like a race horse. Well trained now and quite the house protector. There is nothing like a good dog in the family. She is a Belgian Shepherd Malinois. She was the runt of the litter and came into my daughters life as a gift. She had to be trained, flunked out of school a few times but today she is perfect. Except when she insists on carrying the chickens around in her mouth... She gets yelled at once in a while... But she saved a couple of chickens from a coyote this last summer. She went in to fierce mode and chased the coyote away. I love my grand-dog. Do you have grand-dogs? I have six. I love them all.

She is cute sitting there watching the chicken. She is a bit mischievous though lol I have one grand dog. His name is Myles and he is a Boston Terrier. Whenever I got to visit he is always waiting at the door to give me lots of kisses. He flunked out a school a few times too. lol

The photo was when Zuzu was a baby, as she grew she thought chickens were toys. She is better as an adult, very well trained but just has to play with them some times.

I'm surprised she doesn't hurt the chickens.. but I suppose if you're used to living with them and know they're not chew toys... I don't think I'd trust my dog around chickens, but he's never seen one before.

@PainsOnSlate were you a little scared the first time he picked one up in his mouth?

Zuzu has been around them since they were fuzzy little chicks, she was around as they grew up and she knows what is allowed and what isn't. The chickens in the photo were a neighbors chickens, it was around the time my daughter decided to get some babies chicks for herself.

@katsmeow1213 yes I was, but my daughter had seen it before and yelled at Zuzu and she put the hen down.

How cute she looks in this picture. I have 2 grand-dogs. Akia and Dudley belong to my 22-year-old and his wife. Akia is a full blooded German Shepard and Dudley is a pound pup. Both are spoiled rotten and in Alaska. I never get to see them. They are enjoying the snow and the pictures of them frolicking in it is cute.

@PainsOnSlate Why thank you. My son, Anthony, said that Dudley was not very smart. Then he posted a video on FB, of a dog that was sitting on the couch and the owner was scratching his belly when the owner stopped, the dog would paw at her hand to start the scratching again. This went on for several cycles within a few minutes. He tagged his wife and said that this video reminded him of Dudley. Does not sound as if Dudley is so dumb after all.

Unfortunately, I am allergic to dogs, so we don't have any dogs at my house. But my son and daughter have a dog at their mom's house, and my girlfriend has two small dogs at her apartment. I just admire them from a distance due to my allergies.

@PainsOnSlate My allergies have definitely changed over the years, maybe it has something to do with aging, but I find that things that bothered me when I was younger don't bother me now, and things that never bothered me before tend to bother me now!

@moffittjc My allergies have disappeared as I aged. Also I had a allergy test in the hospital and proved they were all gone. It feel good especially to know the food allergies that sent me to the hospital when I was younger is gone forever..

I know what its like to have allergies, fortunatly dogs is not one of them. When I wasa child I coudb't have pets (cats or dog) in the house because my grandmother had your allergy. When we moved to the country I had a cat but it had to stay outside. We had a cat house outside for her...

I have one grand-kitty cat. Chickens and dogs sometimes are not funny. Neither are dogs and coyotes. Coyotes gang up on dogs. I love the photo.

I have had many grand dogs over the years. It's endearing how he watches the chickens. I had chicken pets a long time ago too. They make grand pets!. Zuzu seems very playful. so did she bite the chicken or just carry them? Lol, the image is rather funny!

No she was just playing, no biting, she just carry's them back to their coop, but my daughter lets them run around when they want so Zuzu had to learn it was ok for them to be out of the coop.

@PainsOnSlate Sounds like there is friendly cooperation there. I suppose she is just being protective. I love when animals have their own kind of bonding. I take Zuzu is a very affectionate dog? The chicken seems very healthy too.
