My major heirloom

A very special ring

A heirloom is defined as a family possession handed down from generation to generation and I see this heirloom just that. A little history about the ring--Joe had designed and had the ring made for Albyn when they celebrated their 25th anniversary--jokingly I said I would love it when the inevitable happens----towards the end of his life Joe was very sick and Albyn had to sell everything and anything he had to pay doctors, hospitals, drugs, etc. My aunt bought it for my uncle (they were good friends with Joe & Albyn) but Albyn agreed only if they left it to me in their will and they did. Whenever I look at it---many times a day--or someone remarks on it I think of Joe, Albyn, Flo and Richard--4 very special people in my life. And someday it will belong to Chuck.

The heirloom is lovely. I have my grandmother's wedding ring. I told my son he can use it if he gets married,,,thus far it hasn't happened.

The meaning of heirlooms is lost these days as hardly anyone has any use for them. Most of today's generation have left the shores seeking greener pastures having little or no interest in what would be called as heirlooms.

@GreatMartin You will not believe this. Most of the youngsters around have enough money that they hardly crave for what their elders would leave behind. Their tastes are so different too, to want to own things that the elders would want to pass on.

I'm glad the ring has found its way to you. Neither of our sons have children so I don't know where our heirlooms, such as they are, will finish up.

I believe in giving people things while I am alive to see them enjoying it--when I go all they will get are the bills I will leave! :O)

@GreatMartin And I know that you are very happy to have it. Funny how something like a ring could mean so much to a person.

That is certainly nicer than what I can call my heirlooms. I am pretty jealous of that, just make sure you take care of it.
