I Got A Check In The Mail

Many many years ago I was approached by a friend of mine who was selling Herbalife products. She talked me into trying it. I did and ended up losing about 30 pounds which I needed to do. And my headaches went away. All of them. Even the migraines. Pretty amazing. I actually loved the products but they were cost prohibitive, very expensive in my opinion. I was so impressed with the product I decided to go into business with her and sell Herbalife as well. We did ok but it wasn't the mind blowing business that the powers that be at Herbalife made it out to be. And Herbalife was constantly trying to talk us into purchasing more and more of their products to sell, so we would have them on hand for our customers and they would not have to wait. As many of you can imagine that didn't work out to well and we eventually got stuck with many many items we could not sell. We also eventually quit selling it. Yesterday in the mail I got a letter from the Federal Trade Commission. Apparently they filed a lawsuit against Herbalife for encouraging distributors to buy products they couldn't possibly sell and misled people about how much they could make. To settle the lawsuit Herbalife agreed to pay 200 million dollars to provide refunds. Attached to the letter was a check for over 600 dollars. I was stunned I hadn't even heard about the lawsuit. I don't know what Herbalife is doing at this time or if they are even in business anymore. I am thinking they are not. I called my friend and yes she has received a check as well. It doesn't make up for our losses, not quite anyway but it was welcomed. I almost threw that letter away without opening it, I thought it was junk, my hubby said no open it and I'm so glad I did. Here is another odd thing, in the letter it says to please cash this check by March 10, 2017, after this date the check could bounce. You can be sure I went to the bank right away and cashed that check.

Wow that is awesome. So glad your husband suggested you open it rather then throw it away. Good job and cashing it immediately.

@Happy2BeMe That's what I said to my husband. It's one thing to know the money is coming in the mail, then you look for it and worry when it doesn't come when you think it should. Entirely another matter when it's unexpected and there it is. I am going to go play with some of it today lol.

Really nice surprise for you. Very glad that you did not throw it away. The other week when I sold something in an affiliate program I felt like I was on Cloud Nine. Enjoy that money and spend it for yourself why not you have earned it.

That's wonderful news. I got a check in the mail a couple weeks ago, and almost threw that away before opening it. It was a refund from my car insurance company. $1. I still need to put it in the bank. Most checks have a void after 90 days statement on them under the amount in the box.

You at least got something back and since you weren't expecting it a windfall of sorts! In some cases you don't have to do anything to participate in a lawsuit. In other cases you have to sign if you don't want to participate. They figure many people won't rush to cash the check I guess.

@fishtiger58 Since you were about to toss it in the trash, it's possible you tossed an envelope telling you about the lawsuit.

Wow, $600! That's a nice little gift you received, and I'm sure you can put it to good use! I've received checks from class action lawsuits and/or legal settlements before, but my checks have been amounts like $1.17, $5.27 and the like. Little amounts that almost make it not even worth cashing the check!
