I've been in the process of rescuing a dog for the past 2 months. I've been very stressed each day, night going to it to be sure it wasn't tangled up in the trees, stumps. He wore a very heavy chain around his neck that would tangle up ... keeping him from reaching his house to get out of the winter weather. The owner would be gone for days at a time ... the dog was very thin. He never barked or growled at us. He came to love us ... and oh my, the love we have for him. He is a beautiful white Pit Bull dog. I know what comes to mind when one mentions 'Pit Bull' ... I know he has the strength, power to be bad but, he only shows love to us. One day I asked the man if I could have him. We saw him there and stopped to talk to him. He said no ... that the dog was there to protect his property. I told him that the dog deserved a better home. We had the worst winter storm here and temps down to 0 degrees. We found the dog ... we did call him Special Pup on my Facebook (you can come be friends with me if you like ... see the photos, videos of him) ... during that bad weather ... his chain was frozen to the ground twice ... he couldn't get back inside his house! It broke our Hearts. We went there 4-5 times a day and drove by with a flashlight to make sure he wasn't tangled up. Then a couple of days ago we went there ... the man was there. He came up to us ... told us we could have the dog if we wanted him ... he would not be coming here again. My Facebook Friends helped me financially to purchase a chain link kennel fence for him ... food, cedar shavings ... tarps/ties ...and we are getting a dog house for Duke. I have been so grateful that my Heart squeezes with such gratitude ... when it does ... tears come to my eyes. I'm so thankful. Now ... Duke is here at our home as of yesterday. He is safe, NO heavy-ass chain around his neck ... in his own safe space. He'll be taken care of, loved by us ... no one will mistreat him anymore. Meet Duke ... photo shows how happy he is. He is officially one of The Pups now. We have 2 Pups ... Kissy the Rottie and Camie the Australian Blue Heeler. They are house pups. I'm so sorry Duke can't live in the house ... there would be a tragedy. Maybe one day. For now ... his kennel will be kept spotless ... he will be fed good, watered ... taken good care of. Not only that ... he isn't isolated anymore ... I have his kennel where he look right where our Pups in the house come out their pet door ... and where we come, go. He has a lot to watch, hear. I can't tell you the love he will have now. I wanted to tell why I wasn't online lately. I've been working so hard to get his kennel together ... and make all good for him. Last night we got him home ... and oh my ... the barking that went on last night! Kissy and Camie ... and Duke. Then a strange dog pops up from nowhere! I'll tell you that excitement in my next story! What a night! I am so grateful to all my Facebook Friends who cared with their very Hearts. Now ... Duke is in a safe space full of love, caring. I welcome any of you to come be friends, follow about The Pups ... Duke is one of The Pups now! Photo shows how happy Duke is now. More photos will come later through time. @GrannyGee Oh, and your comment about what comes to mind when I hear "pit bull"? The most MISUNDERSTOOD ever!!! I volunteer at my daughter's dog grooming shop and her boyfriend has a pit, and all of them are super sweet. In fact, her boyfriend's dog is named "Baby" and she sure acts like it.. the Rottweiler is also misunderstood, yet I remember bathing a brother and sister, both over 100 pounds and could have easily fought me, but the only aggression they showed was using their weight against the tub so I could reach their side.

We wonder why it is legal for people to own pets when they are not responsible. Would love to see a law that required people to pass an inspection before being able to get animals!

He is happy ... you should have seen him today in his new house when I put thick cedar shavings in it ... we wrapped the house in a windproof/waterproof quilted cover. He loved it. Thank you, Valerie.

That owner should've been put in the place of the dog.

@Plethos I will work at talking them but, always keeping a fence between them ... it may takes months but, they will become used to seeing the other and communicating in the special way dogs do. You are so right ... that's my wish.

@GrannyGee - maybe little by little over time all 3 dogs will get used to one another.

Well done dog lover. You are wise to keep him away from the others at least until you know how they will all react together. You never know how a rescue dog will react because of past experiences. We have a small dog which we think has some pitbull in her. She is intelligent, affectionate and jealous. She loves to be with us and has never so much as growled. However she always has to take a bite at the legs of another dog when she is excited. She has made an enemy of our largest dog and we have to keep them apart.

I understand. We can tell we can't let them get together. They are all powerful, strong dogs. Thank you.
