One Letter a Month... Who Does This Anymore??

My daughter actually came up with a brilliant idea for an ongoing gift our granddaughter... a piece of mail each month addressed to her niece. This will be the first month which will include a letter describing what we have seen in January(she loves animals) and a box of Smarties. Yes... the kid LOVES SMARTIES. We were out shopping yesterday and she found about 6 items that she will be able to use in the coming months!! (The Dollar Store is great for this btw) I think a little something that will arrive at the door is so much better than one gift that she opens on Christmas morning and then forgets about. Can't wait to hear her response. Both her mom and dad keeps us updated!!

That's a really good idea. A few years ago, I stumble upon this group of pen pals on IG. I was surprised that people still use the snail mail and writing to each other. I became one of them and started having pen pals of my own.

So far, she has picked up enough little gifts for the next 6 months... but will likely visit the dollar store every time we go into the city.

It was her dad that told us she is always looking for mail addressed to her... I guess that it was birthday cards that started all of this!!

That is very sweet, is your daughter and granddaughter close ages? And live in a different state? It's nice to receive a surprise in the mail!

That is a great idea and something more might want to think about. It seems the art of communication in letter form is not appreciated by everyone. Maybe some of us will copy this idea!

I have no idea where she came up with the idea... but decided to do this instead of sending one Christmas present that will likely be forgotten by the end of the day!

Not sure if she will share her Smarties, but at least her mom and dad will know what life is like out here on the prairies... so it's a win win!!

My niece just went off to uni and many people in the family are writing actual pen and paper letters to her. Her grandmother is doing it weekly! I think it is a good idea and could help my niece to feel safe and supported. I like that it is something that feels like it is personal and it takes some time to do, not just shooting off and email.
