Time To Make the Donuts

Do you remember that commercial "Time To Make the Donuts"? That came to mind today when I stopped at Dunkin Donuts after picking up my car from the service department where it had to get it's yearly state inspection. From the dealership there's a Dunkin close by so I figured it would be a good morning to get a hot cup of coffee and a jelly donut. When I pulled into the drive-thru to give my order the girl told me they didn't have any more jelly donuts!! WHAT????? This is Dunkin Donuts (with the emphasis on donuts) so how in the world could they not have jelly? I assume jelly is very popular so I would imagine they would always have jelly on hand and maybe not some of the others. What a disappointment. Needless to say, I left with just my coffee and didn't get a donut. Talk about disappointed! So here's my thoughts to you Dunkin Donuts....TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS!!! What's your favorite donut?

Coincidentally I've just eaten a cream and jam (jelly) doughnut (English spelling). It was delicious (gloating here!)

That is a disappointment, you'd think a donut store would have availability of jelly donuts My favorite is the original glazed, or coffee glazed, apple frittersz Now you're making me crave for a donut)

My favorite is a tie between lemon filled and chocolate filled! Haven't had a donut for ages, though, although it sounds so good. I'm trying to stick to my diet! Funny, I think of that commercial every evening when it comes time to do the dishes. Time to do the dishes, and I probably look as tired and discouraged as that poor old baker did as he got up from bed in the dark!

Seriously? How could they not have any more jelly donuts left in the morning? But, there are times when I have craved the lemon jelly kind and the donut shop did not have them . Honestly I will eat any donut that comes in front of me . . . but I do love the twist with sugar on it!

I don't have the ambition to make a jelly donut so I'll just have to do without and save those calories for something else

I worked at Tim Horton's over a decade ago. When I first started working there, everything was made from scratch and there were 2 baking shifts, the overnight and the day. AT a certain point, you were left with what you had to get through the day. Before I left, they switched to what they called 'ready to bake'. Everything came in frozen, and the donuts were partially baked. From what I remembered, this was partially to maintain consistency and partially to help reduce waste, since the baking process was simpler.

Makes sense to have them come in partially baked. Since this was fairly early I never thought they would be out of jelly

Up here in Canada its not the Dunkin Donuts that we love so much, but the Tim Hortons Donuts. I, myself, have not had a donut in years. I was never a huge lover of donuts.

I worked for Dunkin' Donuts Regional Office in New Jersey for 10 years. We actually went to Dunkin Donuts University and learned how to make donuts..to get a feel for what shop owners go thru. I don't think jelly is #1 - I thik its glazed.. I don't eat fried food, never ate one donut and we had them brought in daily. Muffins I loved.

I haven't had the pleasure to have a doughnut in a long time. My top favorite was always jelly followed by cinnamon and then custard. You made me so hungry for a doughnut that now I am going to see if I can make some on my own.
