Thing That Might Happen,

Warming hot soup for those very cold Winter days.

If I were going on a long journey and I knew that I had to go whether I liked it or not. First of all I would see how the Weather is going to be on my way there and the condition. of the Secondary Roads too and the Road Works as well. Third I would make sure on the GPS that the Street actually existed. I know that is not always possible for example the Maps here are hardly ever up to date. So more than once we have been looking for a Street that that has had the name of it changed for example. All the rest of the must do things is to arm myself with those micro fibre blankets and a Flask of Hot Soup too and a good reliable Torch. Am I perfect? No, not a chance there is always something that you leave behind without wanting to. But that is what I would do says me that likes to plan things ahead but then you get those around you that interfere and everything changes but one thing for sure I would not leave behind my Flask of Hot Soup and the blankets and the Torch. Those are creature comforts for the just in case but the just in case you don´t want to happen. For example anyone driving the day before yesterday in Murcia which is Province on the Coast of Spain would be surely surprised like it or not by a huge snowfall that happened out of the blue. Just things that happen. Hope everyone has a great week ahead and does not get caught out by stormy weather conditions.

You do put a lot of thought into it before you go out. I plan where we will go and make a list but that is about it.

@shaggin No one can imagine the scrapes I got them both out of. They are not grateful not one little bit.Why should they be? But in the meantime it was all up to me Sue to sort all the good and the bad things out.

I suppose it comes from having two brothers a bit smaller than me to look after all the time and the habit of thinking about things like that making a list of what about this and that has stayed with me. Really its no more than that. They were a real handful to look after on my own.

Hmmm... that is an interesting list of things to take on a trip, whether planned or unplanned... I am curious about something, please. Do you not keep survival blankets in your vehicle as well as a couple of flashlights and batteries for them? (I keep two of the mylar survival blankets (not the thin ones, the ones that are like heavy tarps.) in their pack in the trunk of my car. Flashlights and batteries also go into the trunk of my car. Batteries are not stored in the flashlights, but I do carry packs of batteries that I change out every year. Heat and cold can both kill stored batteries long before the date marked on the packages,) Uhm... it seems like it would be easier to simply purchase food along the way? Please, what have I misunderstood here? Am I simply missing the discussion entirely?

I don´t blame you. You have to put together what you want but because I love hot Soups and stuff like that. That is what I first thought of.

I have never planned such trips where I have to bring along a thermal flask of soup or coffee or anything. I guess I am just lucky to born in a warm climate where food is cheap and abundant. We can always stop for a cold drink or ice cream or anything other food when we are on a road trip.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Weather plays a big part. Ours is hot and humid all year round, so we do not have to buy winter clothing or whatever. It is the same season all the time, so our wardrobe is basically the same kind of clothing. This saves a lot of money for us which we can use to buy food.

@scheng1 We are having a hard time adjusting to that very kind of weather so we take lots of drinks with us when we can. Very cold weather here from extreme to another very quickly have to be strong to be able to adjust.

Nothing is cheap here very much afraid to say so. So you have to make and have some kind of plan. Long journeys with so many stops can cost you a fortune. So glad that you have lots of good food along the way though.

Seeing as the weather is the way it is and Spain is in a bit of a mess Roadwise I was thinking about the people who are stuck on the Road for the whole night in their Cars going to and coming from Alicante and Valencia. I wonder if they have any kind of provision. Anyway I reckon the Police will help out there.

@JudyEv People over here in the South thousands of them have been stuck on the Road because of a heavy Snow fall and I can see the logic in their thinking that it would not Snow like that there as it hardly ever does except around Valencia which has high Mountains so they really should have gone better equiped as we were almost caught in it too a few years back. It suddenly turns from warm to freezing cold at the drop of a hat because we saw it happen. Army and other Military people have been out all night rescuing people in all sorts of conditions very very cold. But the Mountains are so wonderful to see right now and in Granada where People think of it as being sunny same thing loads of Snow well they have Mountains. In Malaga its happened too very hot all year round but January is treacherous on any Calendar it has snowed buckets there as well. Children are delighted though they have spent the day building Snowmen.

@lovinangelsinstead21 In Australia, we'd most likely have water in the car but we wouldn't often have to think about having blankets and/or provisions. Not often we're ever held up for long.

I always like to have water with me. And a friend once gave me an emergency blanket for my car that fits in my glove box.

I also have started keeping all my medicines, my deodorant and my hair brush in my tote....along with a deck of cards, a puzzle book, a reading book, and the rug I am currently making.

With this kind of weather and in spite of the Weather Forecast being more or less accurate you never can tell if its going to be much worse than what they said. Its happened here a few times and we got caught out almost.

Always good to be prepared. Shoot, I even have a big bag of non-perishable food prepared just in case.

If we are on the way to anywhere often we will get extra food so as not to stop so often and get there quicker if we can. Flash Floods happen here very quickly and you can find yourself stranded just like that if you don´t think ahead.l

We always keep a flashlight, extra tire, blankets, a first aid kit, bottled water, and if necessary, food in the car. Great information.

It was things like that that those people at least most of them did not have. They have been caught out and they were just so unlucky for it to catch up with them where they were. Also People catching Trains have been waiting with no chance of going anywhere in the freezing cold a lot of them pretty grim to start with slowly its clearing bit by bit.

I think one of life's most important rules to live by is to always be prepared, regardless of the situation. Sounds like you've got that one covered. Good for you!

I think I trained myself when I was always looking after my two brothers. They were rascals a real handful I can tell you. When I used to take my Sons out for a day or somewhere where we would be out long hours I used to organize everything like that too.

What I made there does not have corn in it but I do like to use it when I can get it fresh. It has pumpkin and red and green peppers and chick peas and other things.

I have discovered that buses can be much better than cars. Someone drives (and does not take secondary roads). And I can put in my suitcase everything I need. When I go to San Fernando, I know I have to take a bigger suitcase. My aunt fills the rest. In this trip she had a cast iron grill she had discovered. The last of its kind. Now they make them half as heavy. And I had to say no to a kilo of sea salt. The suitcase goes in the belly of the bus and I doze if I want to.
