Busy and Historic Day

I could have wished the apartment complex would have waited until this afternoon to salt and plow the parking lot. As it was, I had to leave right when history was being made in the US as Donald J. Trump became President Donald J. Trump. I set the DVR to record so I could watch the inauguration when I got home. I just watched it and I am reminded about a comment I made on a post not too long ago about wanting a government that is 'of the people, by the people, and for the people'. I'm not going to say I got my wish, but if President Trump follows through with what he said in his inaugural address, that is exactly what we will have - a government for the people. I did not vote for President Trump. I did not vote for Hillary Clinton either. I did vote third party. However, it is time we set aside all the differences this election has held from the moment the process began a couple years ago to November when he was elected, until today. There has been too much bickering going on about what people like and don't like about what they perceive is about to happen to America because Donald Trump is now our president. Reverend Franklin Graham said it best when he quoted 1 Timothy 2 and said we are to pray for our president and pray for wisdom in all he does in the coming years. Indeed all those who prayed for President Trump, prayed for wisdom to guide him as he moves forward as the leader of the free world. That is also my prayer, that wisdom will guide every decision he makes while he holds the highest office of this land. God bless President Trump and God bless America. Thanks for reading.

ugh. "President Trump" sends shivers down my spine. I can't believe that it is really real.

Certainly it is history in the making. It has no doubt been the most watched, talked about and debated election in your history.

I tend not to believe everything people tell me. And, I certainly don't believe him until it happens. I hope the next four years go by quickly and that people aren't quite as gullible next time.

@just4him .....I'm really surprised by a lot of what you have said. You are a vet and yet you don't see what he has already done to vets. His disrespect is a sorry thing. Obama did a lot for this country and others while in office. I do not believe this country is 'in the sewer' by any means. Obama did a lot to bring jobs back to this country. I think that Congress and the Senate SHOULD stand against him if his proposals aren't good for the country. I have seen a bit of a change in the man over the last few months and I hope I continue to see more. All we can do is wait and see.

I did some reading on the White House site this morning. If he does all he intends, it will bring the US up from the sewer we've been in for the past so many years it's hard to know where it all started. We're so used to what we've been handed, that when anything new and strange comes along we automatically rebel against it. I know I didn't vote for him, but I am a veteran and what I read about the military makes me proud. We need to strengthen our military. I've been so upset by past presidents who only wanted to downsize our military, our ships, and our bases. That doesn't do anything for our defense if we don't have the manpower to defend our own borders. He also wants to make certain our veterans get the good medical care they deserve. Now that's something I can get behind. I also read all he intends regarding putting American's back to work and bringing the jobs back to our shores and if he can do it, America will be a place I can be proud to call home. He won't be able to do anything though if Congress and the Senate don't work with him but stand against him and his policies. Frankly, from what I read this morning, I hope they don't stand against him, but work with him to help make this country what it used to be, not what it is now.

@celticeagle Yes I am a Vet and when I started seeing bases close and our military downsize I was not happy. He's proposing to build up our military and that's a good thing. I read the other things he also intends and I hope he does follow through with them. Remember, I didn't vote for him, but I am encouraged by what I read and hope it happens.

I choose to be optimistic about the future of our country. We are one nation under God and I believe he is watching.

No TV for us. We ate and drank away the day at a restaurant on the water with my brother, a Trump supporter, who knows not to mention his name in my presence. Afterwards, we took a drive past Mar-a-Lago and discussed Trump's lawsuits against the city of Palm Beach.

I don't want to take this off topic but I was really surprised how much religion played a part in this inauguration. In many ways it shows that although we share a common language with you in the US we are culturally very different. In our elections religion plays no part really...if someone states a very religious view that may be seen as a negative here.

Religion is used in American politics by so-called conservatives like Trump to energize the evangelical base, and it is used by liberals to energize those who don't like religion because it interferes with their hedonism. Politicians on neither side really care much about religion, other than how they can use it to their advantage.

I was surprised by it as well. Six religious leaders spoke. I think in the past there was one that gave the benediction. I think every inaugural speech has had some reference to God in it.

@DWDavis In my opinion religion, in the UK, doesn't really come in to politics. Maybe it does in the US as you seem to be a country, as a whole, that buys into religion. As far as I know it's even on your coins and notes. That may well be due to the origins of your country and the founding fathers and the constitution???
