We have to change our plans..

I'm disappointed. Our tax return isn't even half of what we expected it to be. Normally we get quite a bit with the earned income credit for the kids.. but this year because I worked full time all year, we made too much to qualify. We're barely going to get anything back. We'd been planning a trip to Universal Studios using our tax returns, but we will not get enough back to afford that. But I'd still like to take a trip. Hubby's been busy working both his jobs this weekend, so we haven't had much time to discuss things.. But I am thinking of possibly just going to Orlando and not doing Universal. Or perhaps we'll just go to Myrtle Beach instead. I've never been to either place, and I think I'll be far less disappointed if I at least still get to go somewhere new, even if I don't get to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

We still don´t know what our Tax Return is for sure yet as when we phone and ask its something different everytime. Never mind I will be really thankful just to get to the main City and be able to buy some very much needed things. Hope you can get to where you want to go to though. Take heart you might be able to go to the two places you never know.

Now that I've talked to hubby about our plans, we might look into spending a few days in DC.. another place we've never gone... I have to look into the cost.

@lovinangelsinstead21 We'll see how affordable it looks. It will cost us $300 to camp in Myrtle Beach for a week, but hubby isn't excited about that idea.. not enough to do, and not really hot enough in April. Washington makes more sense as it will be cooler in April and we'll do a lot of walking, and maybe we can try Myrtle Beach in August.

@LovingMyBabies What is there to do there that isn't overly expensive.. aside from going to the beach? Hubby isn't crazy about the idea of going.. we're going to DC instead in April, but we have another vacation planned in August and I'd love to go to the ocean then... so Myrtle Beach might still be an option if I can convince him he'd like it..

I am so sorry that you will not be able to carry out your plans. I know it is disappointing when you are looking forward to something and then something happens that you can't do what you were hoping to do.

@mysdianait We'll try for Universal some other year of course.. Hubby wants to look into spending a week in Washington DC. We were planning to do that in August, but might move it up to April then do something else in August.

I'm seeing the positive.. I think Universal will be fun, but exhausting and we'll want a vacation after our vacation. Myrtle Beach looks relaxing!

I'm not looking forward to those days. Looks like we're doing DC that week, and maybe Boston and Cape Cod in August.

@DianneN We were planning to do DC in August. It's a lot of walking.. hubby thought maybe August would be too hot, so April might be a good time to go instead. August we should go somewhere where there's water.. so maybe Myrtle Beach, but he mentioned Boston (again, we just went in October) and I threw in Cape Cod as it's nearby.

Yes, so the week to week expenses have become a lot easier.. and in time once our debts are paid down we'll have more spending money again.

I think you would enjoy Myrtle Beach, though it's hardly a substitute for Universal Studios. There are lots of fun activities and places to visit there. My wife and I enjoy going there every few years.

Hubby isn't so excited about the idea. We're now thinking of doing DC in April.. we were planning that for August but April will be a bit cooler for all the walking we expect to do. He wants to do Boston/Cape Cod in August now.. but maybe we'll do Myrtle Beach then instead.. still got months to plan that one!

@DWDavis We spent a day in Boston in October and walked the Freedom Trail and saw almost all that stuff.. we didn't go to Bunker Hill though. We also didn't stop at Fenway park, but did drive by it. He just wants to go back and eat at the pizza place we stopped at while we were there.. and I won't say no to another Lobster roll! Yum! Maybe 1 more day in Boston... then on to Cape Cod.. We'll see. Gotta get through the DC trip first.

@katsmeow1213 Boston is a nice city to visit if you stick to the touristy areas. I don't know if they still have the Bicentennial Trail, but you can see Paul Revere's house and silversmith shop, the Old North Church, and there is a nice Bunker Hill museum. Not to mention if the Sox are home, catching a game at Fenway Park.

That's a shame that you've earned too much to qualify. They really make it hard to get ahead sometimes.

It actually isn't a lot.. not for a family of 6 with a mortgage and 2 car payments.

Well it's the only decision as we just don't have the funds for our original plan.
