Ice Boat

Ice boat

I think this morning was the coldest of the winter, so far, and I decided to explore the, sort of, polar landscape along the canal. The sunken boat, that I wrote about in November, hasn't moved, but it is lower in the water. At the moment, like HMS Terror and HMS Erebus, she is caught in the tight clutches of an sheet ice. The ice covering the canal was pretty thick and I couldn't break it with my walking stick. I have to admit that I didn't put too much effort into it as if it did crack I would probably fall into the fresh ice hole. Very nice to get back home and enjoy a good cup of tea. Forgot the crumpets, though!

Not being used to water icing over I'd be very tentative about poking it! Poor boat - and even poorer boat-owner.

I take a child like delight to breaking ice and we've not had that much in the last few years

It is sad that they didn't do anything about it.

It amused me to watch the waterbirds walking across it instead of swimming!

Amazing! I wonder how deep the water is where the boat is? I know it felt good to get back home to a good cup of tea!

At that point about three or four feet, at its deepest the canal is only about six feet. The tea was so good, I had two!

@GrannyGee It looked vandalised, so I am thinking that is what did for it

It has been in exactly the same place for three months. Don't think it is going to get refloated anytime soon

Do people skate on the canals in London?
