Does a cover make you want to read a book?

I think everyone here must have heard the expression "Never judge a book by its cover.", right? But for you, does this expression make sense?
Some time ago, this expression made sense to me because I missed the opportunity to read several great books because I didn't like the cover. This doesn't happen today, because a cover does not say much about any book. But I confess, that a well-made cover still draws my attention very much.

A cover never influences me.
I go by reviews and a precis of the story.

I do tend to look at the cover but at the same time, even if the cover does not interest me I will look beyond that.

@TheInvisibleMan I always check out the epilog on a book. The title also has to be intriguing for me as well to want to pick the book up to begin with.

@Shellyann36 That's the right thing to do, because the book can be good.

Usually, I read the title and the summary on the backside first. That helps me a lot to decide if I choose one book or another one. But, there is also a proverb saying an image says more than one thousand words. A photo can tell us a lot about the content if it is well chosen.

@TheInvisibleMan I don't read the book if i don't like the book. But if someone recommends it as a good read, i go ahead and read it.

Yes sometimes it does. Im a real bookworm and if the title of the book is interesting to me, I usually go by to actually reading the whole book. I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing since it is the book title which is usually in the front cover of the book that I am talking about.

I'm attracted to books with good covers. What's important is the content really so you must not judge the book by it's cover only. Book reviews will help

I go by the description inside the cover, who the author is and flipping through the text.

The cover doesn't mean anything to me it is the description on the back of it that makes me want to read it. Sometimes the covers look interesting but the summary of it doesn't sound interesting.

Me too, alas, I tend to judge by how attractive I find the cover

I've judged a lot of books by their covers but that's only because that's where the synopsis is . Design wise - I don't really care much.

It's what's inside that counts... some covers will catch your eye and peek your interest and curiosity I agree, however, myself personally, I always open it and peek inside ;) xx
