I decided today was a good day to make cabbage rolls. I haven't made them in awhile and I have been craving them. They take such a long time to make but we'll worth it. Looking forward to dinner this evening. So has anybody else thought about what they might have for dinner today?

@LeaPea2417 There are a lot of great recipes online. They are pretty easy to make but can be a bit time consuming.

We were recently talking about making stuffed cabbage. Love it! We went out for Chinese with friends. It was our nod to Chinese New Year.

@Happy2BeMe Lol! I still like stuffed cabbage best, with mashed potatoes and peas. You'd be amazed at the amount of fresh produce down here. I may make some for friends. Any more ideas?

I forgot all about the Chinese New Year or I definitely would have had Chinese food in honor of their special day.

I have never made cabbage rolls. Maybe because they are too time consuming to make them. Whenever I have had them I love them so much that I always ask for the recipe. My son asked why I never made them because his girlfriend makes them and he loves them. I couldn't come up with a good reason. LOL. I am making grilled pork and roasted potatoes that are made in the crock pot. My sister gave me the recipe for the potatoes. I hope my husband likes them. Have to get them going now because they take 3 hours in the crock pot.

That sounds like a good meal too. Yes cabbage rolls are very time consuming and a lot of work. I always make plenty so I can freeze some and have them later.

I just put a roast beef into the oven to cook low and slow for the afternoon. We'll have potatoes and gravy and a vegetable with that for our Sunday supper. I make cabbage rolls every fall, when the cabbage is in season and on sale. And since my husband is the only one who likes them, I freeze them 3 in a container and he has enough to last him the entire winter eating them once a week.

We had a covered dish (pot luck) dinner after church today. Some of my favorites were cabbage with ham bits, deviled eggs, Watergate salad, chicken rice soup, my sausage rice casserole, chicken and pastry, lots of desserts, and of course, sweet iced tea. How do you make cabbage rolls?

@Happy2BeMe Thanks, Laurel! I'll try it soon. It sounds similar to the stuffed green bell peppers that I used to make.

I use 1 head of cabbage ½ lb ground pork 1 lb ground beef 1 onion, diced 1 green pepper, diced salt & pepper to taste 1 cup uncooked rice 1 large can tomato sauce 1 can tomato soup I boil the cabbage until the leaves are soft then set them aside so they can cool. I prepare the rice then cook beef, pork, onions and peppers. Drain off the fat then add the rice and some of the tomato sauce, salt & pepper. Then I mix the rest of tomato sauce and tomato soup in a bowl. Spread a very thin layer of the tomato sauce mixture in the bottom of the pan. I always remove the thick stem on cabbage leaves then lay the cabbage leaf flat and add filling mix. Fold in the edges and roll, placing them seam side down in the pan. Once they are all rolled and in the pan I pour the rest the the sauce over them. I have also used canned tomatoes on top and it is good that way too. Then I just over them with fol and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 75-90 minutes.

I've never made cabbage rolls! What do you put in yours? I think tonight we'll be having Chinese food prepared at home (yesterday we went out for Chinese ) . . . as it's Chinese New Year weekend (though we're not Chinese ).

I love cabbage rolls too but have not made them in a really long time. I also differ from the original cabbage roll recipe as instead of using tomato sauce as most people do and how I was originally taught to I use a cheese sauce. I'm not s huge fan of tomato and cheese and cabbage go wonderfully together
