Retrieving My Photographs

When my desk top computer died I thought I had lost many photos. My husband had transferred all of our data and most photos to a separate hard drive. Until now I thought missing photographs had gone for good. The old drive was damaged but has now been repaired by a friend. I now have lots of images that I had forgotten about. I need to sort them all properly into relevant directories. One of the photos I couldn't find was of wooden figures of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' made by my late father. He didn't get the colouring quite right on them but they are amongst my favourites. Now I don't have to photograph them again. I have shared it at the top of this post. It's a gloomy day here in the UK so I haven't felt like going out. I shall do some mylotting for a while and then get back to my photos. Hope you are all having a good day.

You have used this photo before, I remember it. Wow you father was talented. Glad you were able to retrieve your photos, it's a sickening feeling when you think you have lost them.

Some directories disappeared last May. I didn't think I had posted this pic on here due to it going missing. There were a few more examples of his paintings on a missing directory. I did write a tribute to my dad early last year. I'll go back and have a look. I have all sorts of travel pics back too which is a relief.

@Gillygirl I remember this pic and I believe it was about your father if I'm remembering correctly.

@fishtiger58 Yes you are correct phew! I thought it must have been copied by someone on the now defunct site. You had asked me for some more examples. I had photos on different directories which disappeared.

I needed a new hard drive last summer. The store was able to retrieve all my photos, thank goodness and also put them on another pricey contraption that we bought. Glad you still have your photos. Losing them would be my worst fear. Did your dad work for Disney?

No he was a Principal of a local college. He made the figures from the book 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.

If the hard drive is now working again then it cannot have been damaged. Whatever the problem was must have been software related and not physical, most likely corrupted operating system files. In such a situation data could be retrieved from the hard drive by using a live boot disk.

I am not technically minded. Hubby said hard drive was damaged lol. A friend sorted out the problem for him. I don't always believe what hubby says but he knows best.

@Gillygirl That is understandable because if the system will not boot it will appear as though the hard drive is damaged.

@Asylum I do laugh as he tries to make out he knows everything. He looks quite sheepish if I can provide a correct answer to a problem.

It is horrible to lose photos. I once had a camera stolen before the pics were downloaded onto my PC.

I have so many photos that organising them is a major task and one I keep putting off. I keep back ups on a hard drive, just in case.

Most of ours were but for some reason a few folders were overlooked. I sometimes back up on CD too. I shall spend some more time putting them in order later today.

I hope a miracle happens and you find those pictures. If that doesn't happen you will always have those pictures inside of you.

I find it difficult to remember to store my photos and videos. I have about twenty flash drives and a stack load of CDs with them all on.

I'm very possessive about photos so I like to know where they are. I did have several on Cds.

Thanks I was going to take another photo. I have a few more that were originally saved under another directory. I've now got loads of photos of different places back. I'm so pleased.
