Like many small towns, mine is no different when it wants to honor those who have served in the military. In my town they put up five black granite pillars, which actually come from the same mine in India that the ones for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. come from.
There are many names listed on the pillars with room to spare to add more. The five branches of the military are represented. The names are a reminder of those who are from the town and have served America. The names are a mix of those who have died in service or former and still living.
A wreath of flowers to the left of the columns and a American flag on a flag pole
erected a few feet in front of the area compliment the memorial. People always
come by to lay flowers on the floor.
I took this photo as a representation of my community. It was taken during the
annual parade held every year in downtown. Sure this is more of a snap shot than an actual photograph, imo, but I felt like sharing a little something more of my area.
