Do you ever tag comments on MyLot?

I just left a comment on someone's post in which I mentioned Seattle Washington. It was about rain, and it occurred to me in that moment that I'd love for anyone from Portland or Seattle to comment on my observation. I thought just for a second about tagging my comment with "Seattle," but the thought quickly passed. I never tag my comments. Maybe doing so would disturb my OCD sense of symmetry. In any case, I DO tag my posts. I always use five tags, whether I really need five or not. I guess it's that symmetry thing. My questions: Do you ever tag your comments? I rarely see comments with tags. And if one DOES tag a comment, does it really help? Would someone from Seattle be more likely to see my comment if I tagged it?

I quite never tag a post. In the old myLot anybody could add tags, and some were funny. We have no thesaurus, so no way to do correctly a search with tags : I use always the full text search when I am looking for something, and I think that tags like they are implemented here are useless. They can perhaps give a bit more visibility to a discussion when we post it, and that's all.

I attempt to leave funny tags now and then. But my incredible humor is generally missed.

I've never done that and never noticed any tags there. Please, can you check the Recent Discussions? I've just posted a discussion but the picture doesn't show in the list. It shows when I open my discussion, though. Many other discussions also appear without a photo/picture. At least for me.

For some reason, I couldn't find your post in Recent Discussions. But I COULD find it on your profile page. I left a comment. Yes, I could see the picture. It looked like Jesus after a shave, sneezing.

I'll check it and see if the photo shows. Does my guitar and amp photo show? I chose it because of the "symmetry."

I don't tag anything..either post or comment..lol. Now that you have mentioned, it is very likely they will trace that comment through your profile page..lol

That's pretty much what I do. I'm not sure that I've ever tagged a comment.

I occasionally see comments tagged but haven't done it myself. I'm not sure what the benefit would be. I do use the search function quite often.

What kind of thing do you search? I basically look first for pieces written by familiar people, like yourself.

@JudyEv The humanity! Right now I have to deal with more basic needs. I won't provide any more detail.

@TheHorse For me, it's usually subjects. I wanted to find my old piece about the red statues so I searched for 'Amiens' and up it popped. If you're wondering what Amiens has to do with red statues, you'll have to do a search for yourself and find out the connection.

I honestly think tagging comments is a little weird, so i would not do it, but I see other's doing it and I kind of look past it. It doesn't really affect if I am going to read the comment or not haha I just skim and read what I find interesting.

I don't think tags are designed to make a post or comment more inviting, but I could be wrong.

I always tag my posts but sometimes I cannot come up with 5. I do not ever tag anyone else's posts but often people do tag their comments on my posts. It confuses me a bit is why I do not tag my comments on others posts. Like am I supposed to tag what I wrote about even if it branches off from the subject they have written?

Maybe it would just Make your comment stand out more. Or appear in some searches. That could help the writer of the original post.

I've heard that tagging posts can help. As @sabtraversa pointed out, a tag could lead to your post appearing "to the right" for someone who posts about a similar subject. But I'm not so sure about comments.

@Tina30219 I almost tried the Seattle thing as an experiment. But my sense of symmetry was disturbed, so I didn't.

I tag my posts, because it seems that it's a way to have them listed on the right, but I never tag comments.

@TheHorse When you start a post, before submitting there are two blank spaces. One is for tagging post and other is for tagging photos.

I have seen a few do that. I also never do. Tags are for the search bar to help you find certain types of posts. I doubt many use the search bar on here.

I usually don't tag comments either. I thought tagging helped with the conversations to come up in the search engines. If someone was searching for a particular topic it made it easy for it to be found.

I always tag my posts, and comments but sometimes I can't be bother so don't. I think it does have an effect on searches so somebody trying to find a particular keyword would stumble upon my post or comment.
