Shakespeare Competition

My son in Cyrano 11/16
United States
February 3, 2017 7:20pm CST
The image is of my son playing the character Le Bret in our high school play of Cyrano back in November. Earlier this week our high school held a Shakespeare Competition. A handful of kids participated, and each had to memorize and act out a monologue from a Shakespeare play. My 14 year old son participated. His monologue was from Romeo and Juliet. On Monday he tied with another student, so they had to repeat their performance on Tuesday. Tuesday night my son was announced the winner! On March 7th he will go to a workshop taught by the drama instructors at the local university. Then on March 11th he will compete again against about a dozen other area schools. The winner of that competition gets an all expenses paid trip to New York City for yet another competition.. The winner of the New York City competition gets to go to London! I really don't expect my son to make it to New York this year.. but the fact that he gets to go to this workshop taught by the university instructors is really cool! Wish him luck (err.. no, it's break a leg!)

Yes - break a leg from me too. Does he want to be an actor as a career?

@much2say Yep, he is playing Chef Louis in The Little Mermaid. That will also be next month but he's been busy with rehearsals.

@katsmeow1213 I guess that all happens in another month - how excited he must be! Is there a production going on at school on top of all this?

He must be very, very good to have made it this far! I hope he "breaks a leg" - not really, though!

Thanks! His teacher is pushing him pretty hard, so I'm sure he'll do well, though I do not expect a trip to NYC in my near future!

He will learn a lot I'm sure just from the workshops. Keeping my fingers crossed for him - and I hope he or someone 'breaks a leg'.

Yes.. He's also going to get in some extra rehearsals with the teacher who set all this up. She is determined to see him succeed!
