Day 150 Proverbs 17:9 Proverbs 17:9 He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates very friends. Nobody likes it when people can’t be trusted with confidences. When it comes to national security, people who sell information, face the death penalty. When it comes to friendship, people who cannot keep secrets find themselves friendless. Yet those who can do so, keep a confidence, overlook problems, can be trusted and people know who they are. As king, Solomon knew whom he could trust, and whom he couldn’t. Though his was a peaceful reign, he still counted on those traitors from other countries who would sell secrets. He also executed those he found in his armies who traded secrets with other countries. As Christians, our example of friendship, faithfulness, and loyalty is found in Jesus Christ. He showed everyone what a true friend is. He also showed us what love is. Love binds, it doesn’t separate. Among Jesus’ disciples, was a traitor, Judas. He sold out Jesus to the Sanhedrin. When he did so, shame in what he did, caused him to kill himself. Can you be trusted? Or do you repeat matters, hoping to find friendship? Let’s pray: Father, help me be a friend who can be trusted, not one who separates friends with a wagging tongue.
